Obama’s 2nd-term agenda: Global warming, immigration, taxes

.....More may be revealed this week as the Democrats meet in Charlotte, N.C., when the president will be formally nominated as their candidate. Some of the possible second-term goals are ones he set aside in the first when they were too difficult or politically costly. They include a rewrite of immigration laws, efforts to combat global warming and a sweeping change in the tax code beyond the year-to-year extensions of Bush-era tax cuts....

The government faces a “fiscal cliff” of scheduled tax increases and spending cuts at the end of this year. If he and Congress can’t reach a permanent agreement this year, the face-off will carry into his second term and a new session of Congress.

That could “impede anything else he wants to do,” said William Galston, a former advisor to President Bill Clinton who’s a scholar at the Brookings Institution.

Beyond the must-do, much of what Obama hopes to accomplish may depend on its reception in Congress, where a Republican-led House has blocked most of his agenda.

“The question is, do Republicans see success in continuing a scorched-earth strategy, or do they figure since Obama won’t be on the ticket, they’ll agree to get some things done and make themselves look a little better,” said Tom Perriello, a former Democratic congressman from Virginia who’s the president of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, a left-of-center think tank with close ties to the administration.

“The ball is still somewhat going to be in their court.”

Perriello expects Obama to keep pushing for new spending on infrastructure, clean energy and education in a bid to goose the economy.

....Environmentalists hope that a second term would lead to substantial climate-change legislation.

“Looking back in 20 years, what does or does not happen in terms of climate change could be a defining indicator of success for his administration, and we’ve told them that,” said Michael Brune, the Sierra Club’s executive director. “The challenge is that we have to go a lot further and a lot more quickly.”

Obama says he’d push for immigration restructuring if he’s reelected, after disappointing many Hispanic advocacy groups that had hoped for sweeping immigration revisions in his first term. “I can promise that I will try to do it in the first year of my second term,” he told Univision in April...... Wow! Totally amazing! With the number one issue among voters being jobs creation because 23,000,000 folks are still out of work and 53% of those newly entering the work force can’t find employment, jobs creation is NOT the number one issue for the Obammunists! They talk about everything BUT what they’ll do to foster the business-friendly environment necessary to induce businesses to hire again! But then again, since they’ve indicated that four more years of Obama means four more years of the continuing to implement their ideological agenda, then I guess there’s no real surprise there. And of course that’s all we’ll get: four more years of ideology, because nobody in their right mind will risk investing in U.S. jobs creation as long as Marxists are in charge of the economy!

(BTW, I’ll add that I’m shocked (shocked I tell ya’!) that McClatchy has made this disconnect so obvious given that they’ve been nothing but water carriers for the Obammunists during the last five years.)

Quickly because they will lose the momentum they have gained controlling the media, education, and the lion's share of scientific research money. Most Americans realize that it is stupid if not suicidal to cede the rest of our manufacturing industry to the Chinese. Also they are less efficient and will actually increase CO2 output per manufactured item. But thanks to the barrage of media propaganda many Americans think there might be something wrong with the weather and accept some of Obama's crap.

There's nothing in recent weather that we didn't see in prior La Nina's like the 1930's. So Obama has to do things quickly because the weather will soon be normal again despite media insistence that it is not. There's also the real possibility of global cooling as the reduced solar activity of the past few years has yet to be felt in atmospheric temperatures (the ocean causes a lag). So Obama has to get his climate changing crap in place to get credit for that.
