THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) Charges will not be filed against a man who brought a gun into a movie theater in Thornton.
James Mapes was arrested at the Cinebarre Theater one week after the theater shootings in Aurora.
The Adams County district attorney determined Mapes has a concealed carry permit and did not make any threatening moves with the weapon. The district attorney says Mapes did not violate any laws.
Mapes told CBS4 hes happy to hear the news and knew he was innocent all along.
Did not violate any laws.
Did not make any threatening gestures.
So, why was he arrested?
I’m curious how anyone knew that the guy had a concealed gun..........I’m armed most everywhere I go, but no one knows I am.
I’m sure a lot of freepers are..........
What???
Well, he otta' get no less than 25 years for THAT!!
Hoplophobia
—dredging through my memory and what the Denver Post still has online, I think he was open carrying —which is okay —and has a concealed carry permit also—
Well, it took the police a few weeks to figure those things out.
I've spent time in hospitals, at airports, most any place normally gone to and haven't had issue.
Good point Basil.
I remember reading that a theater manager noticed the gun and then went and told the police. I don’t know how he noticed it though. maybe it was open and in plain sight or maybe it was printed, maybe his shirt lifted up. These things happen. Maybe he needs to get a smaller gun or a larger shirt.
Whew! That was close!~sarc... What next?
Man that walked down street will not be charged?
Woman who started car will not be charged?
Boy who walked to school will not be charged?
Same damn thing!
(Did not violate any laws.
Did not make any threatening gestures.
So, why was he arrested?)
Because the Police are clueless to the laws they are supposed to enforce and or for intimidation purpose.
“Im armed most everywhere I go, but no one knows I am. Im sure a lot of freepers are..........”
After the Aurora incident, I will not go into a theater w/o my piece (CCW), posted or not.
The Moto GP was in Indy a few weeks ago. During the festivities over the weekend, part of downtown is restricted to motorcycles and pedestrians only. There are a LOT of people and more motorcycles than I've ever seen (never been to the big events though). Anyway....
With all the rough looking bikers you'd think there might be trouble. But I noticed something and pointed it out to the folks I was with. I saw at least 4 people open carrying downtown. I'm sure of the thousands that were there, there were likely hundreds of CCW folks in close proximity (me included).
The whole weekend, not one shooting downtown, no arrests for violence, nothing.
Good. Now give him his guns back.
Yep. Lots of freepers are.
He had it about half-concealed in a huge nylon holster sticking off his belt like a WW2 walkie-talkie. Zero discretion.
How long will it take to get his gun back?
The Moscow theater hostage crisis, also known as the 2002 Nord-Ost siege, was the seizure of the crowded Dubrovka Theater on 23 October 2002 by some 40 to 50 armed Chechens who claimed allegiance to the Islamist militant separatist movement in Chechnya. ...
from the Wiki entry on the incident.
I have long thought that when an Islamist wanted to commit jihad in the US, it would be in a crowd like at theater. It is clar that Islamists aren’t the only ones who think a theater is the perfect place for mahem.
