Who was the woman standing behind him who told him he’d just have to call it and let them do what they’re going to do?

Political officer. :)

I heard the DNC will actually invite a delegate from the Gaza strip to participate in the 2016 DNC Convention

Though some other Freepers might have made the "connection," I wonder if Villaraigosa realized what he was doing (as a Secular Progressive RAT, probably not) when he asked (and got resounding "no's" 3 times) about reinstating God back into their platform?

Luke 22:34

But Jesus said, "Peter, let me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me."

Assuming Villaraigosa has some small bit of Biblical teaching in his background, he must have felt rather strange when he got to the Third Denial!

We recall that when all this happened to Peter, ".... he went out, and wept bitterly." (Matthew 26:71-75) ~ and although this one was more like Villaraigosa portraying Pontius Pilate, the mob (of Democrats) crying out for Barabbas must have been more than familiar to him.

This guy now has a lifelong problem ~ he presided over an official Democrat party Denial of God three times (a propitious number in such matters), such deed done in the guise of a howling mob ~ which we all know from the Gospel of John can and does occur in sight of the very presence of Satan.

Add to that his adopted surname of "Villaraigosa" ~ a clear Roma adaptation of "Villa Ragusa" which is otherwise today known as Dubrovnik Croatia.

Now, for the one more relationship in this linkage, the medieval Republic of Ragusa had a town motto (according to Wiki) which went;

"Non bene pro toto libertas venditur auro - Latin for "Liberty is not well sold for all the gold".

Kind of like the scene with the moving finger there in Babylon.

After three votes, the accumulated Ayes added up to 2/3.

This is a Democrat (not Democratic) method of vote counting.

Why is Villaraigosa getting a bad wrap? He was "just following orders"...

Who was the woman standing behind him who told him he’d just have to call it and let them do what they’re going to do?

That was parliamentarian Helen McFadden, who was doing her job. Villaraigosa ignored her advice--he ignored the three voice votes in which the affirmative clearly failed to reach the required two-thirds--and he read the prescripted outcome off the teleprompter.

And what makes them think God wants to be associated with them anymore anyway?!

Echos of “Behold the man!” followed by “Crucify Him! crucify Him!”

Also recall Revelations 3:15-16 “I know your works; I know that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

I went looking for DNC parliamentarian and quickly found ... Steny Hoyer. But it appears you nailed it:

Helen T. McFadden
DNC Winter Meeting, Washington, DC, Feb. 1-3, 2007

Your google fu is impressive!
