How Democrats’ ‘God’ Complex Handed Mitt Romney the Election in Three Minutes
The Washington Times ^ | September 6, 2012 | Joseph Curl

In just three short minutes, Democrats handed the 2012 election to Republican Mitt Romney.

In a surreal floor vote at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., at 5:04 p.m., long before prime-time viewers flipped on their TVs, delegates split — hard — on whether to include a simple mention of God in their platform, and to declare that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

“Awkward,” “embarrassing,” “stupid,” “unforced error,” said Democrat Paul Begala. That doesn’t even begin to capture what will be a game-changing event in the presidential election.

With no advance warning and no fanfare, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a rising star in the party, took to the podium. He gave the floor to the head of the platform-drafting committee, former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland.

“As an ordained United Methodist minister, I am here to attest and affirm that our faith and belief in God is central to the American story and informs the value we have expressed in our party’s platform,” he said. “In addition, President Obama recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and our party’s platform should as well.”

Well. The delegates voted — by yelling ‘yay’ or ‘no.’

Spotlight Mr. Villaraigosa. “In the opinion of the chair — let me do that again.”

He did. Another vote, half yay, half no.

“I, uh, I guess — ” said the by-now formerly rising party star, turning for help.

An unknown woman sidled up and told him, “You just gotta let them vote, and let them do what they’re gonna do.”

Finally, in vote 3, the “no’s” clearly won, but the teleprompter said otherwise and the motion was deemed passed: God and Jerusalem as the capital of Israel were back in the party platform.

“Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a rising star in the party, took to the podium”

Well he killed that hopeless idea. Couldn't handle a voice vote. How can he handle anything bigger?
By the way LA is bankrupt. Good leadership there.
Messy breakup with wive and affair with tv reporter.
I would run that three minutes of leadership as a campaign ad if he ever runs again.

“Villaraigosa is a rising star? He looked confused when he was trying to do something about the Off-God and -Jerusalem vote. Looked as if he were a little burro—a burrito—standing by a busy freeway. He actually flinched.”

I’m surprised they made him do that—it hurt one of their young guns. It made him look awfully bad to the radicals in the party. He was obviously following orders from the boss. And he obviously knew he was doing the wrong thing. But he did it anyway.

He’s one of those democrats who still thinks it is pro-religion. Now he should know it’s been taken over by the new atheists.

In fairness to the people who booed — I am being sincere here — they did have a right to boo because their votes were being disregarded. There is no way that the Ayes were at 2/3. In fact, it sounded as if all three votes went to the nays. When Viliagrosa said, “It's approved”, that was a lie. I don't blame the people who had voted “Nay” for being ticked off (not that I agree with their anti-God position, of course).

That deer-in-the-headlights look was caused by his sudden realization that he would have to commit an obvious fraud on national TV. There was a pic out there yesterday that showed him on stage, along with the teleprompter's words indicating that the "Ayes have it". This was while the vote was being taken! The outcome was (literally) scripted, and everyone would know! It's no wonder he hesitated, he saw the earth opening up and swallowing his candidacy for ANYTHING. So he tried again, and again, then asked for help (somebody get me out of this!)

While the delegates denied God three times, Villaigarosa denied his party twice - he finally obeyed, but it was half-hearted and ugly. He's no rising star now.

I’m more worried about those Castro Brothers, they are the Latino Obamas. They must be nipped in the bud before they can rise up for 2016.

Villaraigrosa showed what an undemocratic fixer he is by ignoring the huge cry of his own party and doing what the bosses wanted.

Talk about smoked filled room decisions.

... and there's lots of competition. Network television is rarely worth watching.
