The State of the Akin-McCaskill Race (Akin out of money?)
National Review Online ^ | 09/07/12 | Ramesh Ponnuru

Posted on 09/07/2012 1:53:59 PM PDT by TonyInOhio

He’s in a money crunch:

Todd Akin’s TV ads are, reportedly, being yanked from stations across the state because his campaign isn’t paying the bills. KOMU-TV in Columbia says it received half of the payment for an ad buy, and when it didn’t get the other half, it cancelled the rest of the ads. The station says its confirmed that other stations from St. Louis to Kansas City have been put in the same position.

McCaskill, meanwhile, is running positive ads about how moderate she is. I imagine the tone of the race will change markedly if Akin stays in past the deadline for him to get out.

always support the conservative

....that’s pretty funny moron, apparently you can’t find the conservative in the race and like Pudge Rove are happy to have a leftist get reelected cause the winning candidate wouldn’t do your and the leftist media’s bidding. I guess you haven’t learned much in 10 years on FR... some sloooow learners around here and you’re the leader of the pack.

Charles Jaco, the man who interviewed Todd Akin, is a left-wing goon who has a history of manipulating interviews with political candidates.

Back in 2002, a reporter from KMOX Radio interviewed Cathy Enz, a Republican candidate running against Democrat Dick Gephardt in the MO 3rd Congressional District. All of Enz’ staff were aghast when the recorded interview was broadcast on the radio. Jaco, who worked at KMOX at the time, took the ENZ interview, played excerpts exclusively for Gephardt and then allowed him to refute her statements, without allowing Enz any opportunity for rebuttal to her opponent’s comments. The interview was incompetent, partisan journalism at its worst; a set-up designed to unfairly disparage a candidate and sway an election.

Todd Akin was also set up by Jaco, in an attempt to find some ill stated comment and distort it in order to ridicule Akin. My guess is that the video of the interview was probably being scrutinized in the McCaskill headquarters within ten minutes of completion.

I happened to be watching the Akin interview that Sunday morning and was not taken aback by his “notorious comment”. I understood Akin was meaning to say forced rape, as opposed to statutory rape.

And as a woman myself, I understand the complex female reproductive system and am aware that stress and, most certainly, trauma CAN (can, not will) cause impending ovulation to be delayed or halted. No ovulation means no pregnancy. Does that mean pregnancy will not occur in case of rape? Of course not! There are only about three days in a woman’s cycle that she is fertile. If ovulation has already occurred shortly before unprotected intercourse, no matter if it is rape or consensual sex, pregnancy is likely to occur.

Todd Akin’s gaffe was not worthy of destruction of his political career. He did not do anything illegal or immoral or malicious. He did not deliberately disparage women who were impregnated by rape. His words were sadly misconstrued by some people and deliberately distorted by political operatives in efforts to affect the November election.

By the way, Jaco’s radio show used to follow the Rush Limbaugh program on KMOX. That was until Jaco got fired, partly for his crude response to a listener who complained about the way he used the Enz interview.

The GOP should be ashamed of tossing Akin to the wind. Rove’s ego is bigger than his lard ass. Akin made a inane comment and apologized. McCaskill will do serious damage if re-elected while Akin has a strong conservative record.
There is NO doubt that Rove used his position as a political analyst on Fox News to promote Romney. He attacked Cain, Newt, Santorum, Perry...so much for fair and balanced? the fix was IN and Rove has a lot of power with the republican inside the beltway establishment. It's their way or the highway. We ended up with the most liberal republican candidate..period. NOW, Rove wants to destroy Akin. He put his kiss of death on O’Donnell in Delaware and he has attacked Sarah Palin...called her “fringe”.

Karl Rove Attacks Sarah Palin, Rick Perry and Herman Cain. “Herman Cain has seen the enemy, and it is Karl Rove.

In a Monday appearance on Fox and Friends, the GOP superstrategist turned talking head ticked through Cain’s campaign stumbles—in excruciating detail and with a mini-whiteboard, no less—on the way to voicing his concern that the candidate isn’t quite “up to the task” of running the country.” This was in Oct of last year.

Rove also attacked the Tea Party candidate, O'Donnell in Delaware. Rove is doing major damage to the conservative wing of the GOP. As long as Rove and Priebus are major players within the GOP...I won't send them a dime.

“I have donated to his campaign and will continue to do so.”

You better open up your wallet and make some large withdrawals from your bank account. It sounds like Mr. Akin needs a lot of help.

I hope Mr. Akin wins. To do so he will need support from conservatives and he will also need to run an intelligent, effective campaign.

“Without the funds that would be very difficult.”

Mr. Akin needs to raise money from conservatives. It appears the Republican elites will not be very helpful.

“not ones who are total idiots”

I'm not convinced Mr. Akin is a TOTAL idiot. He has acted like an idiot lately. It is impossible to defend what he has done recently. But maybe he will improve.

Akin is a conservative. McCaskill is a very weak candidate. Hopefully Mr. Akin will win.

The Democrats worked to support Akin in primary. The Republicans are working to defeat Akin in the general election. Wouldn't it be ironic if he won.

and I am sure Rove’s comment( meant to be heard privately among his friends in the republican party) were words of endearment. He is talking plenty behind the scenes..it is his style. Murdering Akin was just a joke...not funny. SCREW ROVE.

from the link you referenced. It looks like the establishment is doing great harm to the MO race..In this case, Putnam says, Republicans are the ones who used the material against Akin disseminated by American Bridge. “The first few days after the Democrats put out this distorted [abortion] comment, it was the Republican hierarchy that really acted like sharks in the water, striking this fresh meat,” Putnam said.

Putnam says the reason the Republican officials wanted him out of the race had nothing to do with abortion. Rather, he said, Akin voted as a member of Congress against several Bush Administration big government proposals, has a record of opposing “the party establishment,” and figures to be a Tea Party senator in Washington, D.C. if he wins the Senate race against Democrat Claire McCaskill.

Putnam says he thinks the GOP establishment doesn’t want any more independent voices in the Senate Republican Caucus. “I look at the role of the Tea Party senators who have come along the last couple years. They have shifted the balance away from the more moderate Republican establishment. I have to wonder how afraid they are to elect more of these Tea Party types,” he said.

I agree with you. It happened here in Canada as well.

The media, often using innocuous questioning, lays traps that people like Akin gladly walk into and their comments get broadcast across the spectrum. I know how it works, because I’ve seen it a thousand times in my country.

But we are smarter than the media. We know, or should know, the sorts of questions that will be asked and the sort of answers that can end political careers.

I don’t think I’m asking too much when I say that, if we know the questions that can end things, don’t answer the questions. Stick to the messages that voters need to hear.

Most voters don’t want to know what a man thinks about a woman’s biological processes.

Listen to the STUPID comment Claire McCaskill made. At about 2:00 McCaskill insists that Obama did not say that he was going to fundamentally transform America.

The Video Claire McCaskill does not want you to see.

“Like Washington at Valley Forge, Akin will find a way to overcome these short term hardships...”

In no way, shape or form should you even use the names of George Washington and Todd Akin in the same sentence.

Todd Akin doesn’t even come close to George Washington.

Your Post #58 is spot-on.

And therein lies the problem. In the mind of FR’s resident Akintards, it’s not his fault.

It’s EVERYONE ELSE’S fault!

What a pile of hooey!

Since when does FR have an unofficial probation period before someone can comment on a story?!

Why would the GOP support a one issue idiot who only won the primary because of the support he got from from the democrats?

Because he won the primary, and he's the GOP guy on the ballot. And because his opponent is Claire McCaskill. Moron!
