Ron Reagan Disses His Mother: Michelle Obama Gave 'Best Speech By a First Lady I've Ever Seen'

Just how in the tank for President Obama is MSNBC contributor Ronald Reagan?

On Friday's Hardball, he actually said Michelle Obama gave the "best speech by a first lady I have ever seen, and, you know, all due respect to my own mother" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

In a gushing wrap-up of the just-ended Democratic National Convention, host Chris Matthews played clips from Mrs. Obama's speech Tuesday.

When they were finished, Reagan said, “Best speech by a first lady I have ever seen, and, you know, all due respect to my own mother, and I haven’t reviewed all of Eleanor Roosevelt’s remarks that she ever gave. But best speech by a first lady I think I have ever seen.”

Honestly, how biased must a person be to say on national television that someone was better than his own mother?

Wouldn't most people have said "excluding my mom, of course" out of mere respect?

Not Ron, apparently.

For his part, Matthews of course agreed with his guest, but later commented, “Neither of these first ladies nor the candidate for first lady can sing like your mom can. They can’t sing ‘Second Hand Rose’ like she did.”

“Well, that’s true,” Reagan said.

Some consolation prize, Ron. You're a heck of a son.

He has no problem trading on his old man’s name, if only to be a useful idiot.

Making a living by dissing his father. What a piece of work.

That’s a very apt description of him... a “stunted adult.” His demeanor and mannerisms are that of a smart-aleck teenager. I tend to loathe men like that, who seem forever locked in a kind of sarcastic, adolescent smarminess. There’s something innately pathetic about it. And naturally, 95% of the time they turn out to be liberals. Or homos. Or both.

I find it very disrespectful of you to refer to President Reagan as his old man

Ron Reagan the Lesser proves that even great men can have meatheads for children. Patty Reagan isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed either. Maureen Reagan was a winner though. Maybe they should have stopped with her. Who would have thought the adopted son would turn out to be the best son.

No disrespect meant. I often referred to my father as my old man. It's a common moniker, where I'm from.

Geez...

I’ve always thought Jane Wyman was the mother of Reagan’s “best” kids.

And he was the one that was adopted

Yet he took on more of the wonderful traits of Ronald Reagan then his biological son.

not surprising. adopted children sometimes feel so deeply the fact that they are not connected by blood that they spend a great deal of time and energy trying to fit in by trying to be as like their parents as they can possibly be. they study and listen to their parents more and try to make that connection that is missing in one respect by cultivating it in another.

Who cares! We don’t vote for first ladies and they have no bearing on the question at hand!

God bless Nancy Reagan, a wonderful woman but she wasn’t known for her speechafying. No one ever claimed she she was a good speaker. She wasn’t expected to.

Ron Reagan’s only claim to fame is his willingness to trash his parents. Charming.
