Mooshelle says: no Godiva chocolate for Americans.
Well, the Swiss don’t want a fight, so I guess they’ll be willing to lose their US sales in order to not ruffle the Obamas’ feathers.
But... if the Obama’s take away my right to eat chocolate I will not be at all happy.
The fact that the FDA exists is unseemly.
Hands off the Godiva guys.
The FDA should be so fussy about the ‘food’ that comes out of China!
Instead when plastic was found in pet food ingredients, an acceptable level of melamine was set.
What's to stop other countries from using this as a precedent to "inspect" USA businesses?
For a few more months.
Then the civil suits can begin.
And the discovery process.
Is that "inspect" as in SWAT-style "down on the ground m*therf*cker or we'll blow your f*cking head off!", or rather the more fun-trip Obama Mandarin-style "inspect" as in "oh, could I sample a few more of those delicious truffel pralines, and please do send a few boxes to our five-star hotel post-haste"?
If we can prevent just one more child from dying as a result eating uninspected chocolate, then it is worth the inconvenience. /S
I guess that's one way for government employees to get their holiday shopping in Europe done.
Why don’t the Swiss just say bugger off?
It’s our chocolate, we will make it the way we want, you don’t like it buy something else.
Mooschelle vs. The Swiss... should be interesting
The Food Safety and Modernization Act was passed with a huge majority in the Senate (73-25) and sizeable majority in Congress (215-144). Its the kind of big government that Republicans like to vote for too.
If you believe that having FDA bureaucrats running around the world visiting food factories, having the FDA require family farms to implement “food safety procedures” or giving the FDA unilateral power to shut-down food makers is going to lead to cheaper food or won’t politicize the food industry, as we have seen with housing, healthcare and education - then good luck!
If the Swiss don’t mind ruining a batch of chocolate, they should feel free to show these inspectors the chocolate from the very bottom of the vat.
I thought our al-Qaeda member, sleeper cell, president didn’t want the USA to be so arrogant! This seems pretty arrogant to me.
Or maybe Odumbo Mugumbo wants to be known as the chocolate president aka NO, LA.
I guess the community organizer has run out of American businesses to "shake down" for payoffs.
That harassment to Gibson guitars in Tennessee comes to mind.
The Swiss government should intervene to stop this now, and should have never tolerated it in the first place. Clearly, this has little or nothing to do with food safety, which means that something nefarious is going on.
By WTO rules, the US would have to prove that an imported product arriving in the US is unsafe before they could ban it. To demand inspection rights should raise red flags.
This is what happens when you hire lawyers to do food inspection instead of Sanitation/public health inspectors. The FDA is rancid with dishonest inspectors. I’d look real hard, there is some money going under the table somewhere. Look at the Senate Investigations of 1975 on fraud within the Army food inspectors, the USDA, and the APHIS.
Come to think of it, as of late, the FDA and USDA seem to be obsessed with dairy products. The crackdown on the raw milk producers is just the tip of the iceberg to this.
Thinking beyond the pure authoritarian aspects of this, I wonder if something is going on that is frightening them?
The last “milk crisis” I’m aware of was when after nuclear atmospheric tests in Russia, because of the jet stream, suddenly Strontium-90 started pouring out of the sky onto middle America, where it showed up in cow’s milk.
The US immediately pushed for the atmospheric test ban treaty with the Soviet Union.
I take it these inspections will occur just prior to/after the election, say, Octoberfest? Christmas shopping season?
Global World sneaking up.
