Players’ Support of Gay Marriage Alters N.F.L. Image
New York Times ^ | Sep 8 2012 | Adam Himmelsbach

Posted on 09/09/2012 6:01:55 AM PDT by scottjewell

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo has been a consistent supporter of legalizing same-sex marriage. In 2011, he filmed his own video backing this November’s ballot initiative in Maryland and posted it on YouTube, and he recently donated Ravens tickets to a Marylanders for Marriage Equality fund-raiser.

of Emmett C. Burns Jr., a Maryland state delegate who opposes same-sex marriage. On Aug. 29, Burns sent a letter to Steve Bisciotti, the Ravens’ owner, urging him to “inhibit such expressions from your employee and that he be ordered to cease and desist such injurious actions.”

Burns’s letter elicited an aggressive, searing response from another N.F.L. player, Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe, who said he could not sleep after reading the letter Thursday night because he was too infuriated. So he wrote a profanity-laced response to Burns and submitted it to Deadspin.com.

“Your vitriolic hatred and bigotry make me ashamed and disgusted to think that you are in any way responsible for shaping policy at any level,” Kluwe wrote, adding later: “Why do you hate the fact that other people want a chance to live their lives and be happy, even though they may believe in something different than you, or act different than you? How does gay marriage, in any way, shape or form, affect your life?”

And, Ellner said, support for gay-rights issues is on the rise in the league. The current and former N.F.L. players Scott Fujita, Michael Strahan and Nic Harris are among those who have spoken out in support of same-sex marriage. The Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin, who had a brother who was gay, appeared on the cover of Out magazine. Zeigler said he had interviewed 25 current players in the past year, all of whom said they would welcome a gay teammate.

An NYT agenda with a few I mean few players and former players express in favor of it.

Well, I tell you what, we better never find the likes of that Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo posting here on Free Republic.

The fags who dominate the NYT newsroom are ecstatic now that there are a whole TWO players support “gay marriage”. A journeyman linebacker and a punter. WOW! What a groundswell (not).

I bought a movie Friday to watch tonight. I read where several actors in it had anti Republican remarks in the news yesterday... it will be returned this afternoon for a refund... unopened and unwatched. I have many Clint Eastwood movies in my collection... I will watch one of those instead.

“Your post reads like a roundabout accusation of bigotry”.

Why does it sound like bigotry? Free Republic is made up of God loving and fearing conservatives. People who hold the sacrament/definition of marriage as the Judeo-Christian definition (one man, one woman). Any so called freeper that would post in favor of letting two men, two women, a man and a poodle, a woman and a tree marry? Nope... not happening. I stand by my fellow freeper with “that dog just don’t hunt around these parts”.

“How does gay marriage, in any way, shape or form, affect your life?”

This guy has no clue. Why not allow brother to marry sister? Or how about allowing two men to marry two woman in a group marriage? Once you redefine marriage, then there is no point in even being married. It becomes meaningless.

Liberalism truly is a mental disease.

NFL Diva who probably does the “down low” deviant.

for those in rio linda, down low is when a male engages in deviancy but claims to be straight because of marriage or engaging in normal conduct.

Why would it be bigotry to acknowledge the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God-—the very Moral Laws of Natural Law Theory that our jurisprudence is based on? The idea of promotion of Vice by a government which is supposed to embrace “Just Law” is really creating sickness for the next generation. To promote any sodomy rights destroys morality and logic and reason in children. The reason why their are “Rights” from Satan in a country based on God=Given Rights is beyond the pale.

Not as hardcore as you but have cut out going to movies and cut back on restaurants.
Pro sporting events are way too expensive anyway. Had to participate in a company outing last summer to attend a SF Giants game. Cost $55.oo plus it was a cold night and they got creamed. Total waste of time and money.

Good thing Reggie White isn't around to see this kind of sh!t unfold in the NFL.

It's also interesting to see Michael Strahan weigh in on this issue. No surprise to see where he comes down on this "gay marriage" issue, considering his own marital, uh, history. He went through a very acrimonious, highly publicized divorce (from his second wife) a few years ago, and rumor has it that he's now engaged to Eddie Murphy's ex-wife. He probably needs the Today show gig just to make his alimony and child support payments.
