To place the weekends polls into perspective, Matt Drudge offers some historic flashbacks:
● POLL: O 49% R 45% ● FLASHBACK: CARTER +4 OVER REAGAN IN SEPT 1980 [+8 IN OCT] ● FLASHBACK: DUKAKIS +17 OVER BUSH AFTER DNC 1988
As William A. Jacobson writes at his Legal Insurrection blog, Operation Demoralize is Working Just as Planned:
Its November 7. Barack Obama has won. The Republican presidential strategy has failed. The media is jubilant. The right-blogosphere is going through a serious introspection. The left-blogosphere is dancing on our graves and shoving it down our throats. Four years of fighting the Obama agenda was for nothing.
Oh, Im sorry. Let me correct that. Its September 9, not November 7. The rest of the paragraph above can remain as originally written.
Oh, and as a reminder that snap poll numbers immediately after a convention can be rather deceiving, particularly when theres nearly two months of a campaign and the debates and shifting world events left to go, heres USA Today on September 8th of 2008:
WASHINGTON The Republican National Convention has given John McCain and his party a significant boost, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken over the weekend shows, as running mate Sarah Palin helps close an enthusiasm gap that has dogged the GOP all year.
McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republicans biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.

Brother, you said it best!
First, these are institutional investors in the market. The small retail investor is on the sidelines.
Second, everyone is totally betting on both the EU and the Fed pumping in money, one way or the other.
CNN Money has something called the Greed/Fear index. Even when the market only bounces around by 2% or so each way, the greed/fear axis goes from one extreme to the other over just a few weeks.
It just isn’t a rational market and it has little to do with actual production or growth.
It may be just as irrational to bet on a quick recovery under Romney as to bet on a collapse under Obama. “Buy on the rumor; sell on the news.” There is a lot more manipulating the market than just the US elections.
Yep. Also...people are already forgetting about how WRONG the “polls” were in Wisconsin.
And we must be realistic about our win. After we get rid of Obama....THAT is when the hard work begins.
Half the country pays no taxes and gets some type of government handout (and that percentage excludes Social Security and Medicare). We have a president who is a disaster who is still competitive. The reason is that a big chunk of the country is more worried about their handouts being shut off than finding a job. The polls that just came out aren’t too relevant and we should not be demoralized about them. What we should be worried about is that more and more people view a life subsidized by the government as acceptable, and they are not going to vote for the party of individual responsibility. If people don’t want to work for a living, we are doomed in the long run.
Exactly.....which is why I stated that the REALLY hard work will come after a win.
Obama has made it very clear he is at war against Christians. I find myself singing this song a lot these days - tune running in my head or under my breath, especially whenever I unavoidably have to be around liberals .... gives me hope for the future:
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
with the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
forward into battle see his banners go!
At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;
on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
We are not divided, all one body we,
one in hope and doctrine, one in charity.
Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
but the church of Jesus constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail;
we have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.
Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King,
this through countless ages men and angels sing.
With God’s help.....victory indeed!
;-)
Bingo, you nailed my thoughts exactly.
Spin polls and the MSM can’t demoralize me, but my candidate running up the white flag in September seems to have that effect.
Sorry for the repost, but it needs to be said!
No need to be sorry about anything. I wholeheartedly agree with you.
;-)
Right now I feel about the kenyan the way I felt about Romney all through the primary season. He is inevitable. The game is rigged.
Romney sounds like if we change parties in the election we don’t actually change anything but the face fronting the same socialism, the same programs, the same economic and social collapse.
I don’t believe in allowing my FEELINGS to control my mind....or my actions.
;-)
