Yes, Obama is winning. So was Jimmy Carter. So was Michael Dukakis. So would any Democrat, incumbent or not, who enjoyed the fawning coverage the mainstream media heaped on President Barack Obama.
During the Republicans’ convention, the media interrupted, fact-checked, and cut to commercials. During the Democrats’ convention, they swooned, and barely mentioned the awful jobs report that followed the next day.
So? Par for the course. You know who else was winning at this point? John McCain, by 5 points. And Democrats panicked. The media panicked. Tom Friedman of the New York Times told Obama he needed to “start slamming down some phones.”
But soon enough the structure of the race started to change. Lehman Brothers failed. The media targeted Sarah Palin. Obama stood still while McCain suspended his campaign. And he won.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will not, and should not, hope for a market meltdown. Nor can they expect to get help from the mainstream media, even when President Obama has a George H.W. Bush “supermarket scanner” moment and reveals he does not know how to use touch-screen technology to make a phone call.
Unlike Democrats, the GOP contenders are going to have to do things themselves and fight for the win on their own.
And you know what? They can.
The challengers raised $111.6 million in August alone, and they are only beginning to spend money. They have nearly $200 million cash-on-hand, far more than Obama--who has spent his campaign into debt running attack ads against Romney and Ryan that failed to put them away. The super PACs are about to kick into gear, as well. And the battle is all on Obama’s turf, in states he won in 2008.
North Carolina is already moving back into the Republican column....

Bottom line..Romney has to take the socialist/Marxist takeover by Obama headon. If Romney doesnt’t start getting aggressive he’s toast.

You can say that again.
It has been demonstrated over and over again that in an election where there is a black candidate and a white candidate, the black candidate will over poll. People are afraid of being branded “racist” for not voting for the black candidate; that changes in the voting booth, especially when the economy is in the tank and sinking fast.
I suggest that we bombard the Romney campaign with suggestions to this effect. Romney website has a provision for suggestions. mittromney.com front apge has “contact us” link near bottom. Then “suggestions”. Let’s have at it. No regrets.
Let me consult this campaign. Either Obama will lose or he’ll be so damaged by truth, he’ll not be able to make a move on his second term without limping.

Strangely enough, the same “over poll” “Bradley effect” meme was trotted out with McCain too.
How’d that turn out?
I’ll give Romney the same advice my father gave me in little league baseball:
“Swing as hard as you can in case you hit it”
“If you’re gonna go down, go down swinging”
Those two pieces of advice have helped me through a thousand situations. People respect someone who goes for it. People forget the guy who plays it safe.

While I agree with you - and have posted something similar in the last couple of days - the country is in a different place now than it was in 2008.
In 2006 midterms, the most recent elections prior to the 2008 Presidential, the Republicans got slaughtered. Therefore, in 2008, oversampling dems made sense.
This time, in 2010 midterms, Democrats got slaughtered. Therefore in 2008, oversampling dems does not make sense.
I do not think the pendulum has swung all the way back but I do believe the polling firms are oversampling Dems - either because they want Obama to win or they think that’s still the correct R/D split (or both).
Actually at this point in 1988 it seemed it was all over but the “Congratulations, President Dukakis” part.
All it took was the Willie Horton ad, that tank photo, and his lukewarm response to that debate question to unravel him.
This is about right. Romney has the upper hand in cash right now, and the ads he and the GOP have put out are good ones.
Romney’s ads and the GOP’s ads so far have been pretty good, and have fared better in the “fact-check” arena even when the fact checkers are lefties. The ad talent is in favor of Romney. The cash on hand is in favor of Romney. Obama’s ads have been petty and false. His campaign and prominent Dems have been caught in incredibly stupid and obvious lies of late. Biden is still a gaffe machine. And people have got to be tired of repeated, shrill cries of racism by now. And I’m not so sure Obama really is in the lead- he’s polling a little bit over Romney right now, but that’s on a post-convention bounce and with polls that over-sample Dems. The Dems have already quietly abandoned the environmentalist/climate change plank this year.
On top of all that Obama just doesn’t have a record to run on. If Romney can deflect the War on Women BS and focus on the economy, IMHO his chances are excellent.
I think the Romney campaign is cocked and locked and ready for a huge offensive on the leans-Obama states. Obama will have to squander a lot of resources in a desperate fight to retain states that in a different political climate he could count on. And he’s gonna lose some of them.
I’m not sure how much it will really affect the race, but man, I can’t wait to watch Ryan wipe the floor with Biden in the VP debates.

I agree. It is a fair assessment. I wouldn’t say Obama is winning any more than I would have said Romney is winning when polls favored him a few days after his convention. The race is close. Obama benefits from incumbency and media impact. The GOP benefits from a crappy economy and general dissatisfaction with direction. If the election was today, I have no idea what would happen. The anti-Obama voter rolls are huge - 45%+ are strongly opposed. The DNC got their people fired up last week, too, and they have the GOTV (unions, etc). I think it would be close, but electorally, I think we would pick off at least 2 of the FL, VA, OH today. Ohio would be the least likely at this moment.

After hearing more horrific economic news about our standing in the world, I have come to a simple conclusion. Anybody who votes for Obama or stays home isn’t just misguided or lazy. They are idiots. Anyone who enables this man to destroy the economy of this country is a moron. Only in a nation full of morons would someone who has crashed us into a wall be reelected. Forget his assaults on freedom, his communism and his lies. Just LOOK at the economy. That alone is enough to kick bozo and plugs out. Those who refuse to vote for Romney are as bad as the Obama supporters. Whether or not he’s a RINO, it’s clear he plans to get out of the way when it comes to the private sector. We NEED jobs. Lots of jobs. Social issues can be tackled later, in the congress. The economy is priority #1. We are now ranked 7th in the world, for crying out loud! It’s pathetic! OBAMA HAS TO GO!
Obama has overseen the US credit downgrade, the fastest growth of the debt in history, a bad economy, embarrassing gaffes all over the world, no budget for the last three years, unpopular legislation, the list goes on an on.
A lot of this will come out in the debates. But Romney can't assume people are aware of anything. He needs to play offense and force Obama to defend his record -- that is his weak point.
