Sad thing is, if Obama sides with Rahm, the media will say its courageous and the union will still vote for Obama.

It still neutralizes any benefit Obama would have gotten from brokering a deal and the union loses. Win-win. They messed up when they had Rahm pretend to oppose the union so strenuously. He should have stayed out of it. Then Obama could have still rode in and saved the day. Now if gets a deal done he appears to be against Rahm, Ryan, AND Romney and for the union.
