Mrs. Obama’s Back to School Message: ‘Exciting Changes’ in Cafeteria By Elizabeth Harrington September 10, 2012

(CNSNews.com) – First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a back to school message for children to inform them of the “exciting changes” to their lunchrooms this year, thanks to federally mandated healthy food choices now in effect.

In a video message taped outside the White House, which was featured on the Lets Move! blog last week, Mrs. Obama welcomed kids back to another year of “learning, discovery, hard work and fun.”

“And today I want to tell you about some exciting changes that you’ll be seeing in your school cafeterias,” she said. “Starting this year, the talented people who cook the food at your school will be offering all kinds of healthy, delicious new choices. Foods that are good for you and that taste good, too.”

“These healthy foods are good for your body, they’ll give you energy and make you stronger and they’re also good for your mind,” Mrs. Obama said.

“Studies show that when you eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables that can actually help you pay attention in class and do a better job on your homework and tests.”

“And that’s really what this is all about,” she said.

Mrs. Obama also noted that both she and the president “believe” in the potential of our nation’s school children.

“It’s about ensuring that all of you have everything you need to learn and grow and succeed in school and in life because you all are the future of this country,” she said of the healthy food choices. “And I want you to know that I believe in you. Your president, President Obama believes in you, too.”

I had a great-great Uncle who thought that a healthy diet was eggs, rare beef, whiskey and tobacco.

He lived to 103.

He was also widowed at age 30 and despite a constant parade of younger, older and contemporary women; never remarried.

That could have had something to do with it. Sounds like a plan.

“We can’t just leave it up to the parents,” Mrs. Obama said.

That idea has worked so well with teaching sex education, moral values, etc. Of course, this woman who can only boast a failed career as a lawyer and a job that she was able to get by being married to the right person is now qualified to make pronouncements about nutrition!

My husband is retired so he is at home in the afternoon and has started watching Dr. Oz. I have Monday afternoons off this semester, so I was home today while he was watching. I usually like Dr. Oz, and today's show was OK. It was the promo for tomorrow's show that got me. His guest will be - you guessed it - Michelle Obama, the nutrition expert. I sort of yelled at the TV that she is unqualified to make pronouncements about the nutritional needs of the family dog, much less about those of American school children!

What is healthy for one person is not necessarily heath for the next.
You're exactly right. What did we do to deserve this administration? *sighs*

Sounds about right...though I did voluntarily give up smoking and drinking etc.

When I eat out I tend to ignore the ones with “New Healthy Menu” offered, will go in and scoff at it and if I can’t get my red meat and taters will move on. Letting the waitri know she lost a decent tip...

Also try to avoid ANYTHING that has ‘green’ about it, I don’t just not go in, I let them know WHY I am not going in.

Gee, great to be a ‘geezer’ and be able to waste one’s time ‘picking’ on these fools....

“.....federally mandated healthy food choices now in effect.”

Stuff your “federally mandated” up your very ample butt.

I am the oldest of 6 brats. We were dirt poor and we ate well. WE didn’t need the government to mandate what we ate and WE didn’t take handouts. MY mother was actually a mother and MY parents actually RAISED us... they didn’t simply bring little people into the world and watch them grow into big people.

Somehow we all turned out good and have lead productive lives. None of us became homosexuals., perverts, prostitutes, meth moms, crack whores, criminals or willing slaves to the government.

ALL of us were patriotic and WE have always loved our country.

Somehow we made it and we never once thought it would be helpful to have some white hating Black cow telling us how to live or federally mandating a damn thing. No, WE did it ourselves... with hard work, love and the help of God.

The students in Chicago should listen to her, because the cafeteria is the only thing in their schools that is open.

It didn’t work for Jamie Oliver, when he took his Food Revolution to W. Virginia schools in “America’s most unhealthy city”(Huntington) and it won’t work for Mooshy Obama either, unless the kids get gently, uhhh, “coerced” in a myriad of subtle and not so subtle ways. Anyway, there should be plenty of “hopeful” numbers they can cite in the next 50+ days.
Even if it’s a total flop, with videos of kids fleeing the cafeteria in horror, or choosing their usual fare, it’ll be
called a success.Jamie was working as an individual, fighting tooth and nail for the tiniest successes, and was dreaming about getting a measly $80,000 to expand his program into a second school district. And Jamie Oliver really KNOWS something about food.

11am daily Choom Gang sessions will see to it that the "little b@stards" are damn well hungry. Medical choom, it's not just for cancer patients anymore.
