One day after the Democratic convention ended here, and a week after the Republican convention wrapped up in Tampa, and American politics is basically all tied up. Heres the top line on Real Clear Politics 60 days before November 6: The RCP average for the presidential race shows a dead heat (Obama +0.7 percentage points), the Senate is 46-46 with 8 tossups, and the generic congressional ballot is tied.
And while the conventions gave us little indication who will win in November, they offered some insights into how the campaigns think they can achieve victory. Mitt Romney is running as a decisive but largely nonideological manager. Barack Obama is running as a proud, even aggressive, liberal whose policies just need more time.
In his address to the Democratic National Convention on September 6, Obama offered the country a full-throated, unapologetic embrace of government. Solving our challenges, he said, will require common effort, shared responsibility, and the kind of bold, persistent experimentation that Franklin Roosevelt pursued during the only crisis worse than this one. The speech was the apotheosis of a campaign that has glorified government at every turn. There was the bizarre website featuring a fictional Julia who relies on government assistance to get ahead at every stage of her life, and there was Obamas you didnt build that riffboth the comment and the contextdiminishing individual accomplishment and celebrating government good works.
On the final night of the convention, shortly before Obama spoke, Barney Frank departed from his prepared remarks to offer the progressive view of self-government, a view that all too often ignores the crucial institutions between the individual and the state that make up civil society. There are things that a civilized society needs that we can only do when we do them together, Frank declared.

You got ti, and I am wondering why some FRpers, other than for the trolls are in a panic. The election is not DONE.
Obama is a decisive manager? He can’t even make a decision.
If the MSM didn’t make every Presidential race out to be close, there would be nothing for them to write about.
They need to make it a horse-race as much for $$$ as for their ideology.
and that is why its close.
home team in caps...las vegas spread...
USA ROMNEY vs communist soetoro.... even
Why must conservatives continually boost Obama by calling him a liberal when there is ample evidence he is a Radical Marxist.
There is ample proof out there so why isn’t it being used?
Because they are afraid if they do, the media will make fun of them. Well do call him a Marxist or Anarchist and Baby murderer and when they make fun of you shout the facts out loud. Make fun of them. Keep shouting about Bill Ayers, The Reverend Wright. His votes to slaughter babies and not just fetuses tho I personally don’t see a difference.
Our candidate it pushing Obama as a nice guy and that is the worst possible thing he can do.
RE: Obama is a decisive manager? He cant even make a decision.
You really believe that Romney is the aggressive liberal and not Obama?
Maybe they should take a picture of him in a tank?
I am no fan of Harry Truman but he knew how to win an election. He was trailing badly so what did he do?
He gave em hell!
And he won!
I'm not in a panic and I'm sure that all of these polls can be sliced and diced as to methodology and sampling but...
When old Steve Hayes wrote this article (posted here today) he said the RCP Avg. was Øbama plus .7%.
Of course today it is actually Øbama plus 2.9%.
As far as the polls go, things are decidedly not going well for us (Romney).
Because there is this big see-saw. On one side is Romney and on the other side is Obama. Obama is joined by thousands of conservatives who see no difference between Romney and Obama.
RE: Obama is joined by thousands of conservatives who see no difference between Romney and Obama.
So, the solution is to let Obamacare, more spending and higher taxes be the law of the land under the assumption that Romney and Ryan are lying when they promised to repeal Obamacare and cut taxes by 20% across the board?
Funny, I never thought of Obama as a decisive manager.
I don't know one conservative who has joined with Obama - indeed they are total opposites. Romney and Obama do have some similar stands on issues. However, Romney said he is a “severe” conservative although that is folly for him to say.
Bread and circuses.
