Mitt Romneys campaign is pinning its hopes that its big cash advantage will help the GOP nominee against President Obama, who is leading in the polls.
The goal has always been lets get into October and be within striking distance, a GOP strategist close to the Romney campaign told The Hill on Monday. Were going to have a financial advantage these last two months in the air wars, from the campaign as well as the third-party independent groups.
Romney had a $60 million cash-on-hand edge over Obama as of the end of July. While Obama edged Romney in August fundraising, bringing in $114 million to the GOP nominees $111.6 million, the presidents campaign has been spending at a faster clip in recent months, meaning Romneys cash edge likely remains significant.
On top of that, GOP-aligned outside groups like American Crossroads have a huge financial advantage over their Democratic counterparts, and will use that in the closing weeks of the campaign.
The GOP nominee faces a slight deficit in national polls following a post-convention bump for Obama, as well as the daunting prospect of needing to win approximately two-thirds of the swing states to pull off a victory. His campaign sought to put those facts in the best positive light on Monday.
Dont get too worked up about the latest polling, Romney pollster Neil Newhouse wrote in a memo distributed to the press and supporters. While some voters will feel a bit of a sugar-high from the conventions, the basic structure of the race has not changed significantly. The reality of the Obama economy will reassert itself as the ultimate downfall of the Obama presidency, and Mitt Romney will win this race.

As for "get out the vote?" What are you doing to get out the vote?
I can tell you what Montgomery Co GOP/Romney are doing: we made 85,000 phone calls in August. That was a national record. Every Republican, leaner, or indie then gets targeted first with an info drop, then with a door knock. We have seminars going on everywhere about precinct organization and that is completely in place. We have already signed up all the poll watchers and poll flushers.
The campaign is at least on track with Bush's 2004 campaign and light years ahead of McCain's. So what do YOU plan to do?
They’re pinning their hopes on “sit back, smile, don’t offend anyone, and just wait for Obama to collapse”. Very very risky strategy.
They think the bad economy hurts Obama, when it actually helps him. Unemployment people want their government goodies, and they think the Republicans will take them away from them.
That should be “Unemployed People want their government goodies...”
We are perilously close to that tipping point of “Heads they win, tails we lose”.....If the economy is good, then the Democrats get the credit, if it’s bad, then the Democrats will just promise more relief.
That’s why the GOP needs to focus on more than just the economy.
Romney campaign pins victory hopes on cash advantage, TOO late ad blitz
Milquetoast Mitt McCain is dragging America towards another 2008 election result by pussyfooting around, with of course the full compliance of the GOP establishment who would much rather see the Rats take back the House than risk a few more of those eeevil Tea Party types winning. Mitt's complacency will hurt conservative candidates all up and down the ballot -- another similarity to 2008.
Mitt's ads will either be non-existent or marshmallow-soft. As many others have noted, the polls shouldn't be close RIGHT NOW, despite Bonzo's alleged bounce from the DNC Freak Show Extravaganza of Lies and Hate.
Montgomery county where?
OH. One of the most critical counties in the entire US for elections. We lost 04 by a few thousand votes, allowing Bush to win. If this county doesn’t lose by much, the Republican will win OH.
Good idea beat up Obama take his money and send him back to chi-Town broke and busted.
I was rather wondering why Republicans would be wasting time and money on Monkey county (as it's known here).
Marxists believe that everything is determined by economic forces.
The ONLY numbers we are seeing is ‘Donations in” & “Cash on hand”.
I want to see the numbers for “ACCOUNTS PAYABLE”——especially for Obama.
He has been carpet bombing the airwaves for many, many months, especially here in Nevada.
I think he OWES millions of dollars in unpaid bills, which isn’t shown by “Cash on hand”. Obama has refused to pay city & county governments for the extra security costs incurred when he is in the area. Many such locales have billed him for such & have been stiffed—being told ‘it is an honor & patriotic for your city to bear this cost’. In Washoe county, whee Reno is located, Obama has been here 3 times & the cost was in excess of $350,000 so far. NONE of this expense was budgeted by the city/county.
Obama has announced he will be back to Reno 1 or 2 more times, putting the county/city further into the hole. Firemen & fire stations are not working & we live where fires are often large & very destructive. We have already had a number of them in 2012.
Romney, however, has paid many such bills presented to him.
I think the funds that are reported are those which are donated directly to Romney.
The funds he got possession of after the convention were donated to the RNC. Romney didn’t get access to those funds until after he was officially nominated.
That statement also brings into the question as to whether that same rule applies to Obama. Does he get access to DNC funds before or after his official nomination?
While I have heard numerous discussions about this in reference to Romney, I haven’t heard a single reference to the release to funds to Obama.
Anyone out there able to explain for me?
He is already planning on purchasing a $35 million estate in Hawaii.
Penny Pritzer has donated 1/2 of the money to buy it for Obama. She is another one who needs to be indicted for bank fraud.
October carpet bombing? Where’s the one for September?
A lot of team Obama people will see many hours of court time after the elections maybe around June.
