Ever since Rupert Murdoch started his Twitter account, he has been sounding off on everything from gun control to Scientology. Now he’s offering some words of advice for Mitt Romney, tweeting earlier today that the Republican nominee needs to get more specific and to “stop fearing [the] far right” abandoning him if he makes a play for the middle because they have “nowhere else to go.”
Murdoch acknowledged that the Democrats scored a “big net win” with their convention, highlighting Bill Clinton‘s “brilliant” speech. He went on to say that between now and the November election, Romney has to offer the electorate a clear choice between his vision for America and Obama’s.
He followed up by saying that Romney should not be afraid to broaden his appeal to “sympathetic families” and open the “big tent,” because conservatives will not stage a mass exodus from the Romney support team and simply allow Obama to win.

Abandoning conservatives could lose him a race that a ham sandwich could win.
The question at issue is, how far to the left should he move BEFORE the election. AFTER the election, he can do whatever the hell he wants. No need to worry about those damned conservatives THEN.
Romney needs to stop fearing the radical left.
Sure they do -- they will vote for everybody else on the ticket but him or just stay home.
Romney does not fear the right (conservatives), he doesn’t care diddly squat about conservatism, and doesn’t give them a second thought.
Actually there is no such thing. It's a bimodal saddle with two nodes ~ we call one the Republican party and the other the Democrat party.
Politicians who go for the middle, for the independents, for the moderates ~ LOSE!
After all, there's nothing out there but a thin fringe with few votes. Nothing wrong with being a member of that fringe ~ sometimes they are ahead of the big coalition parties, but it also means you don't usually win any elections.

I guess Mittens figures us Far Right Wingers as the equivalent of blacks to the Rat party.
Both groups grumble about life on the plantation. But we both fall in line when election day comes around.
It is remarkable a man as brilliantly successful as Murdock, who has general rightward leanings, could be so disastrously incorrect. How does one differentiate themselves with Obama if they stake out middle positions. Obama has already draped his far leftist views with moderate words. That ground is taken.
A strong conservative platform works every time it is tried. That is how guys like Walker, Ryan, and Ron Johnson win in Wisconsin, how Rubio won in Florida, and how Christie, McDonnell, and Brown all won in early 2010. It does not mean being a wild far right flame thrower, but to point out the real problems people are facing and providing clear alternatives through conservative solutions.
Murdoch says to open the big tent then says “to hell with conservatives”. I guess the tent is only large enough for all the RINOS and “moderates” and the conservatives will have to stand outside and scream their vote into the tent.
And apparently Murdoch doesn’t realize a few percentage points and Romney loses.
“Nowhere else to go.”
An open admission that we are to be taken for granted.

THe GOP E made a serious mistake when they excluded Sarah Palin from the convention. The left had slick Willy - a has been rapist and womanizer. Sarah would have shored up the base.
Shame on the Romney camp! Newt Gingrich would’ve been a welcome relief as well.
Not surprised in the least of how RM thinks of the average patriotic American.
I hope nobody here is surprised that this is, and has been the predominant GOP attitude for a long time.
It's why Romney is the nominee in the first place.
It's why we will continue to get such squishy candidates.
The GOP has no respect for conservatives.
