Earth To Conservatives: Immigrant Amnesty Is A Conservative Policy
Townhall.com ^ | Sep 11, 2012 | Jerry Bowyer

Posted on 09/11/2012 11:16:54 AM PDT by Bratch

Latinos are religious, morally conservative and tend disproportionately to join the military. They also tend to be hard working and entrepreneurial. Do we really have too many of them?

Do we really want to pack them up, forcibly, by the millions in the greatest forced migration in human history? How many are there, 15, maybe 20 million? No one has ever moved 15 million people against their will. No one has ever moved half that many without concentration camps, forced marches of one form or another and mass death through plague.

If there’s another way to do it, please tell me what it is. But I haven’t heard one. What I hear is slogans like ‘what part of illegal don’t you understand’ and attacks on ‘amnesty.’ Slogans move callers to dial in to talk radio, but they don’t move 20 million people voluntarily back into poverty and squalor. Soldiers do that (unhappy ones); box cars full of people do that. Camps surrounded by barbed wire do that. In the end you either let them stay or you herd them out. If you want to call it amnesty, go ahead.

After all, what’s wrong with amnesty? The idea has a well-worn legal tradition, one strongly associated with the Christian faith. It means forgiveness. After the Civil War, Lincoln offered amnesty to rebel soldiers. Was he wrong to do so? They had taken up arms against their own government; they had killed hundreds of thousands. But Lincoln (as opposed to the radical republicans) had the wisdom to offer forgiveness. What about runaway slaves after emancipation? They had broken the law, shouldn’t they have had to pay the price even after the laws were changed? Of course not. Why should immigration laws be any different?

The eagerness of the GOP-e and their mouthpieces to justify illegal activity is palpable.

Nope, not buying it. I’m more positive about immigrants than many here, but this article is ignorant and erroneous.

You don’t have to “round them all up”, you just stop coddling them.

1. E-Verify
2. Random sweeps
3. Secure the boarder
4. No welfare
5. Punish sanctuary cities/states
6. No public services
7. Work hand-in-hand with the states

After a while, it sours the milk.

Frankly, the discussion on what to do with the illegals already here is premature. The first thing that needs to be done is to close the freaking border to stop the influx. Then, and only then, we can have a discussion on how to deal with the ones here, because unless and until we can stop the inbound flow, sending illegals back won’t solve anything.

Well, the Civil War was over, so there was no longer a mechanism to keep creating former rebel soldiers. Illegal immigration is not over. Neither is the welfare state. So amnesty would encourage more illegal immigration, just like it did after 1987.

Typical half-baked pap from the pro-amnesty community.

“Latinos are religious, morally conservative and tend disproportionately to join the military. “

Not this crap again? It shows how moral you are when you break into someones country, get free education for your kids, get the Earned Income Tax Credit, get the EBT cards, get the “crazy” money from Social security for your kids, get free medical treatment and a myriad of other social services. Yeah, you’re a real shining moral example.

I don’t care how religious and conservative you are, get the hell out of my country.

Lie. Republicans from Fred Thompson to Mitt Romney have raised the concept of self-deportation.

“Ronald Reagan saw it, even if alleged ‘Reaganites’ don’t. He signed amnesty into law in 1986, inviting three million ‘illegals’ to become ‘legals.’”

The worst argument ever. Its like saying to someone that they survived cancer once before why not again. Hey you broke a leg but now you walk normal. Why not break it again? Regardless of who did something before theres no assumption they were correct unless they walked the earth about 2000 years ago and was named Jesus.

The person who typed in the article does not have the civility to acknowledge that we are talking about ILLEGAL activities of ALL peoples..

Perhaps the person who typed in the article could explain why he feeeeeeeeeeeeeels that Latinos alone are all inveterate law-breakers . . . .

Reading the excerpt was as far as I got.

Make life intolerable for them and they will self-deport. Many already have. Come here legally or don’t come at all.

What other crimes do you think should be forgiven en mass ?

These people are FOREIGN INVADERS.

If we can’t deport them then we need to cut off the welfare, job, health care and schools to these illegals. Taxpayers should not be on the hook to support millions and millions of foreigners.

Slaves and Confederate soldiers were indigenous, illegal aliens are not. And many illegal aliens owe their allegiance to their birthplace, as well illustrated by the conduct of Mexicans at soccer games between Mexico and the United states, during which the US team, anthem, and flag are booed and the Mexican equivalents are cheered. Why single out Mexicans? Simple. Because they comprise the vast majority of illegals and seem to have the most nostalgia of their homeland, but not enough to leave.

Tens of thousands of illegals self-deported after AZ SB 1070 was passed.

No one wants the libertarians to win on this one.

This is the actual, 2004 text of the Libertarian Party Platform on immigration.

COMPLETE PLATFORM TEXT
INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND CIVIL ORDER

IMMIGRATION:
The Issue: We welcome all refugees to our country and condemn the efforts of U.S. officials to create a new “Berlin Wall” which would keep them captive. We condemn the U.S. government’s policy of barring those refugees from our country and preventing Americans from assisting their passage to help them escape tyranny or improve their economic prospects.

The Principle: We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age or sexual preference. We oppose government welfare and resettlement payments to non-citizens just as we oppose government welfare payments to all other persons.

Solutions: We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.

Transitional Action: We call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.

Perhaps he did so because Mexicans comprise not all, but the vast majority of illegal aliens.
