Libya rescue squad ran into fierce, accurate ambush

A squad of U.S. troops dispatched by helicopter across the Libyan desert to rescue besieged diplomats from Benghazi on Wednesday ran into a fierce overnight ambush that left a further two Americans dead, Libyan officials told Reuters.

Accounts of the mayhem at the U.S. consulate, where the ambassador and a fourth American died after a chaotic protest over a film insulting to Islam, remain patchy. But two Libyan officials, including the commander of a security force which escorted the U.S. rescuers, said a later assault on a supposedly safe refuge for the diplomats appeared professionally executed.

So much for Muslim “security forces” that Obama spent our dwindling taxpayer money on during their “revolution.” Looks like the Arab Spring turned out to be a Helluva Summer in the Middle East.

Ok that makes 6 right. 4 at the embassy + 2 in the rescue team. I remember hearing bits and pieces of this. A report that 2 marines were killed. It didn’t add up until now.

Hmmmmmm, a typical ObamaNation story that keeps changing until they get one that the media will accept. With all the ... uh .... pro-American Libyans involved in the defense of the Consulate, the evacuation and the rescue how is it that they had no casualties?

Such a sad feeling thinking about the ones who were killed and to see another day of unrest in that region. I am getting tired of our people getting killed all for a holy war that’s not going to end. Prayers for the families.

AND: About 5,000 SA-12 Strella MANPADS missles are likely in the hands of AQ now.

That’s a really good anti-aircraft missile. Not 500 —5,000.

Reading this article and with what proceeded the rescue attempt, it sounds like we are in chaos, and that our people in the state department and the military were caught flat-footed, and are sending almost suicide squads, who are struggling in heroic desperation while vastly outnumbered and ill-equipped, and reinforced, and they are suffering battlefield defeats.

This article is devastating, what is going on over there?

Eight Americans in the rescue force, 1, possibly 2 dead, and 2 wounded?

THE KILLINGS AND RIOTING IN EGYPT AND LIBYA ARE ALL PART OF OBAMA’S PLAN. ONLY THE BEGINNING. COMPLETELY ASTOUNDING THAT HE’S GETTING AWAY WITH THIS. WE ARE IN DEEP TROUBLE. OBVIOUSLY HE CANNOT FINISH WHAT HE NEEDS TO DO (HEARING THE BEAT OF AN ISLAMIC DRUMMER) UNLESS HE WINS THIS ELECTION. CAIRO IS UP IN ARMS,VIOLENT RIOTING IN THE STREETS AND IT’S 4 IN THE MORNING THERE. OBAMA CANNOT UTTER THE WORDS ISLAMIC TERRORIST AS IT’S AGAINST HIS RELIGION. I AM SO ANGRY THAT THIS COUNTRY VOTED FOR THIS MADMAN TO BE OUR PRESIDENT!!!!

It's a good thing I'm not president. My primary question would be. "How can we guarantee 10,000 dead Libyans by morning? More would be OK, but I'll be real upset if you can only give me 9,999 dead Libyans. What do we have in theater that can get that job done?"

The Islamic world hates us -- so why bother playing nice? Just send the message: you don't want to eff with us. We don't need boots on the ground, because we don't want to possess your land. We want to be left alone, and we will hurt you real bad if you don't leave us alone.

OMG, Obama has his own “Desert One”

President Carter announces to the nation, and the world, that eight American servicemen are dead and several others are seriously injured, after a super-secret hostage rescue mission failed.

President Obama doesn't announce to the nation, and the world, that two American servicemen are dead and a dozen or more others are injured, after a super-secret besieged diplomats rescue mission failed.

Hey! Hey! Hil-la-ry! How many dead Americans will there be?

She has got to be fired. This is gross incompetence that resulted in dead Americans. The only reason the media isn’t calling for her to be fired is because they’re being paid off. No ideologue would try to make excuses for this kind of incompetence.

Not the way I read the article, but the composition is a little disjointed...

I read that Stevens and one other person (likely Smith, the IT guy) were killed at the consulate. It was later at the "safe" house, when the US Marines from Tripoli arrived to help evac the 37 other Americans, when they came under another apparently very well planned attack that killed the 2 Marines.

Last sentence of article says that estimated dozen more Americans were wounded; but it does not specify if from both attacks, the rescue attempt, or what.
