Channel 4 has been forced to cancel a screening of the controversial documentary Islam: The Untold Story, after the presenter was threatened with physical violence.
Historian Tom Holland received abusive messages on Twitter and warnings he would come to harm because of the film, in which he suggests that Islam is a 'made-up' religion.
..His investigation into its origins claimed that there is little written contemporary evidence about the prophet Mohammed.
He also suggests the Koran makes little or no reference to Islams holy city of Mecca, and argues there is no evidence for the general assertion that Islam began 'fully formed' in the 7th century.
Instead Holland says it has developed over the centuries into the religion we know today.
The Islamic Education and Research Academy accused him of making 'baseless assumptions' and engaging in 'selective scholarship'.
...Holland, the author of best-sellers Rubicon and Persian Fire, said that Islam is 'a legitimate subject of historical inquiry'. ...

If more people would learn the true/actual history of islam BEFORE and AFTER the advent of mohammad they would know it changed drastically under mo and became completely incompatible with any rational form of civilization...up to and including the fact that their so-called god was once a goddess.
and have any arrests been made?
last i checked it’s illegal to threaten someone’s life
I don’t think it is a crime if you are Muslim. They are justified to kill if their feeling are hurt, the President said so.
I have read three Holland books. The two mentioned are excellent histories for a mass audience. Persian Fire sure provides a lot of historical background to 300.
The programme has already been shown (to critical acclaim and a high audience for CH4). The repeat is due this week (I have SkyPlussed it-skyplus is our TIVO).
The cancelled showing was a public showing, not the TV repeat, which as I said in my last post is due on this week. And is still on my TV planner. So CH4 is clearly going to show it, albeit not publicly due to genuine security fears.
And no, I wouldnt have cancelled that either. Although I understand why CH4 have.
thank you
