TORONTO - The fur will be flying at an east-Toronto Mosque Friday afternoon, when a group of dog owners plan to walk their canines outside the building during prayer sessions.
It was toward the end of August that two groups — the Canadian Hindu Advocacy and Canadians United Against Terror - set up a Facebook page inviting people to walk their dogs in front the Salahuddin mosque in Scarborough.
Their call was a response to an incident in August that took place during an anti-Israel demonstration at Queen’s Park by an Islamic group where a Jewish man was arrested for his involvement in an altercation where he was shoved and his dog was kicked.
Some devout Muslims believe dogs to be unclean and vehemently avoid the animals.
The Queen’s Park demonstration was a rally to mark al-Quds Day, an annual event originated by former Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini calling for the destruction of Israel and the rising up of a Palestinian state.
One organizer of Friday’s dog walk told the Toronto Sun demonstrators will set up on the side-walk outside the mosque’s main entrance.
“They’ll see us when they go in, walking our dogs, and we’ll have a loud speaker and they’ll know why we’re there,” said Ron Banerjee of the Canadian Hindu Advocacy. “In a democratic society, we are kind to our animals.”
Banerjee admitted that while the Facebook page as of Thursday night listed 349 as planning to attend the event, organizers have received only around 40 personal confirmations.
The Facebook page has had its share of controversial visitors, as well.
It was during the end of August that Facebook administrators removed posts by Iranian-born Toronto resident Ali Shirazi after he threatened to throw dog owners who come to the mosque into a “lake of fire.” He also warned that their beloved pooches will be shot.
The event has attracted at least one radical evangelist south of the border. Controversial Christian fundamentalist Terry Jones had reportedly endorsed the dog walk. Jones is known for his threat in 2010 to burn hundreds of copies of the Qur’an - the Muslim holy book - to mark that year’s anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In April he carried out his threat by burning several of them.
Jones is more recently known for hanging an effigy of U.S. President Barack Obama in response to the President’s endorsement of same-sex marriage.
Better yet...barbecue some pork and make sure the mosque is downwind... }:o])

Modern PC police generally view themselves as “keepers of the peace,” not “enforcers of the law.”
Ergo, anyone standing up to muslims has to go, even some old Jewish guy and his dog.

Unfortunately no, because of the labour laws set by the province. He’s shaken it up quite a bit so far but it’s a huge undertaking, one that will take a second term to have any lasting impact. Prior to him we had 15 years of union-friendly mayors and councillors.

All the devout Muslims around here, however, have dogs up the wazoo, perhaps to control the depredations of wild pigs trained by the Jooos! on their grape vines and olive trees. Funny how “devout Muslims” have a problem with one of man’s best friends (the other being the horse, with which they seem to be ok). Is it because they have a problem with mankind?
Mosque protest goes to the dogs
TORONTO - A much anticipated dog walk protest outside an east-Toronto mosque Friday turned out to be a hopelessly neutered event.
Around 20 demonstrators turned up outside the Salahuddin Islamic Centre for the Walk Your Dog in Front of a Mosque protest. It was organized in response to a Jewish man who was arrested at a recent Islamic demonstration following an altercation in which his dog was kicked by a demonstrator.
Around 20 humans and three dogs – two retrievers and a pomeranian — turned up for the two and a half hour event and converged at the entrance of the mosque, located on Kennedy Rd. south of Eglinton Ave. E.
Some devout Muslims consider dogs to be unclean and avoid them.
“We wish we had a better turnout, but there were extenuating circumstances,” said organizer Ron Banerjee, citing traffic and rain for the poor attendance. The “events such as the kicking of dogs the poisoning of dogs in countries like Spain and England” on the part of staunch Muslims, he said, must be challenged. “Being kind to animals and being tolerant of other people shouldn’t be limited to the West,” he said.
A group of Muslims belonging to the mosque — men dressed in long thobes and women in burkas – met the demonstrators.
Tabasum Hussain, a Muslim woman, called it pointless.
“I don’t really see the benefit or what it’s supposed to achieve, other than cause friction,” said Hussain, who claims to have had dogs as pets. “There is nothing in Islam to say that we should ill-treat dogs.”
Towards the end, one Muslim arrived with two friendly Siberian Huskies. All the while, both sides bickered about religious and cultural differences, at several points reverting to name calling.
The event also attracted its share of rabid anti-Islamists. Eric Brazau, a convicted felon once arrested for allegedly harassing a group of Muslim women, turned up to make “a stand.”
“If we look at what is happening around the world today … how is it that we can say that there is no problem with Islam?” he said, referring to recent attacks on U.S. embassies in countries such as Libya and Sudan.
I guess the people at the mosque didn't get the memo. Some of them came out and petted the dogs.
Hindus know all about the scourge of Islam as the Jihad brought its infestation shortly after big Mo’s death to the Hindu Cush. Thousands of fire temples destroyed or turned into mosques and dhimiization of millions of Hindus.
