My take from reading a bunch of stories tonight is that they were in Libya on another assignment. They were sent in to extract the consulate officials who were under fire. They were ambushed. There were more bodies to move than they had expected. And they were not prepared for the number of combatants.
The two SEALs who were killed were among the best of the best. They saved those who could be saved. They gave their lives In the process.
My impression...the Libyan attackers were conducting a fully planned operation, and anticipated every step the Americans would take. I’d take a strong guess that someone on inside of the top level of the Libyan gov’t had a hand in the planning of this.
