I would point out that while Afghanistan broke the armies of Alexander the Great, Britain, Russia and is battering the US military, the Mongols had few problems there. Of course that may have had something to do with killing every male over the age of twelve when the Afgans tried to revolt. But I should point out that they only had to do it once for the Afgans to get the message. As Gen Curtis LeMay said "If you kill enough of them they stop fighting."
