The 11 long years between major uprisings speaks highly of the respect that was apparently restored when our soldiers summarily sacked one of their strong horses, Saddam Hussein. What gained more respect from our enemy however, was the fact we sent in ground troops, willing to shed blood to exact consequences on our enemy.
Though we cloaked our entry into Iraq in defensive and altruistic terms, thankfully our enemies, both Arab and Persian, saw everything as punitive and retaliatory. To what should be our shame, only our enemy's persecution complex caused respect to be gained.
This is why drone killings gain us no respect, just the opposite, killing from afar makes us look weak in the jihadis' eyes.
Under Obama/Hillary we have adopted the Nicholas Berg foreign policy, the belief that our good feelings toward the enemy will somehow prevent them from wanting to behead us. If we don't change we'll suffer the same fate as Nicholas Berg.
We now need unabashed, unapologetic punitive and retaliatory measures.
