what a load of crap, a single CH-53 can transport all 50+ Marines and their gear, hover over the embassy compound, fast rope in the Marines, drop their gear and fly back to the carrier without ever touching down.

We don’t ask, we inform.

I hear ya. Barry and Jarret are probably sitting in the Oval Office saying to the Sudanese President..."Can we please send just one platoon of Marines to protect the lives of our diplomats? You see we've had a bit of trouble lately in Libya....Oh, and Valerie would you be so kind as to pass the crumpets to go with my tea?"

This whole thing would be comical if it wasn't so tragic.

If you’re saying that eventually Sudan will accept Marine guards at the embassy, I’m not so sure that’s going to happen.

I wouldn't present a helicopter full of Marines as a human sacrifice. Choppers are easy to shoot down, even with AA guns, never mind missiles. Better to publicly announce that a successful incursion into the embassy will be considered an act of war by the Sudanese government.

***Why would Sudan agree to make the eventual storming of our embassy actually dangerous?***
