Do You Care If Your Man Has a Gun?(Cosmo poll to freep)
cosmopolitan.com ^ | 11 September, 2012 | Korin Miller

Posted on 09/15/2012 7:03:37 PM PDT by marktwain

Studies have shown that having a gun at home can increase the risk of firearm-related violence, and someone who lives in that house or visits it is 12 times more likely to be killed by that gun than a burglar.

That said, many people own guns—a nationwide Centers for Disease Control survey found that 32 percent of Americans have one at home.

What do you think? Would you care if your guy kept a gun at home?

Would you be okay with your guy hiding a gun at home?

* Yes. It makes me feel safe. 31%

* No. It freaks me out. 21%

* I have my own gun at home. 32%

* It doesn't bother me either way. 15%

Yeah... I figured I'd be dead by morning.

Not my first rodeo. After 40 years in the rough, a life of celibacy seemed like a great idea. ;)

Imagine a single guy visiting a lady’s home (for a game of cribbage) to find wall to wall WHITE carpets.....you could figure that relationship would die a sudden death.

Especially since I could have taught “Pigpen” of Peanuts fame everything he knew. LOL

Yep, its a joke.

“After 40 years in the rough, a life of celibacy seemed like a great idea. ;)”

There is something to be said for being alone (except for my little dog and your cat).

There is solace and no interruption which allows me to read and write articles and think of the world situation and what that means and why it matters, or not. I like my company and don’t care for superficial socializing.

Maybe you have some of those traits, too.

The other nice part is not having to clean up after you bludgeon someone for being stupid. Or vice versa...

Naps are good, too.

Grew up in the country and hunted all my life, but I gave my hunting weapons away...now I live on a boat and rely on charm and kung fu.

I will eventually arm myself again just for what if, but right now “what if” helps keep me training in middle age. No vehicle; walk many miles thru very urban environment, I have had my experiences.

There’s a certain sword that I’ve been coveting awful badly, I’ve always wanted to learn the double edge sword, or “gim”...not in the budget at this time, though. Not practical in this day and age, but I don’t care. #1 on the wish list.

The way the news is, I think about investing in a battle rifle sometimes, or at least a .22 so if I run away to sea, I can alternate my fish diet with a little seagull pie...lol

I can’t defend my life choices as making sense for anyone else but me.

“to find wall to wall WHITE carpets.....”

I get it - a surgically clean house (please take your shoes off at the door), is not your thing.

There is a lady who lives across the street from me, and no shoes are allowed in the house. Shoes are lined up at the door. Absolutely nothing is out of place, not even an inch. She stays in a stress situation all the time, to keep perfection there. She is also single but I don’t think her place would be for you.

No shoes are allowed in my good daughter(tm)'s house. It damn sure ain't for clean. Actually it's not her house, it's her in-laws...

Cambodian thing.

When in Rome, shoot Roman candles...

The up side is, I, as an elder, a visiting elder, get pride of place, and first shot at the food and hooch.

The downside is that my daughter knows me.

I can't even chat up the grandson's nanny without getting in trouble. ;)

Custom to remove shoes, isn’t like sterile lady across street.

It’s after 2 am, didn’t realize that, guess I’ll retire so I can do this again tomorrow. So many articles to read, so many posts to make. Who attacks whom tomorrow in this world?

#1...your wife is nothing but an all American woman.

#2...she appreciates an all American man, such as yourself.

#3...I’ve had a gun since the 80s, and won’t hesitate to use it...if I can find it. lol

#4...I appreciate a man who has a loaded gun, knows how to use it and, most importantly, knows where to find it quickly. ;o)

I like men doing what men are intended to do...protect their own, and be the hunters/gatherers.

I like what women were intended to do...be the bearers of the next generation and the nurturers.

Your oldest* is well on his way to being the man that you are.

*I’ve been on a dove hunt. I’d never shot a rifle before, but hit a dove flying through the air on my second shot. I went back to the jeep and cried. I wasn’t cut out to hunt, unless someone is hunting me.

My wife insists - if “it” hits the fan she wants me to at least be able to provide cover fire as she takes out the bad guys....

Cosmo magazine. ugh. Thanks to AZ.44mag for the ping!

FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)

What a one-sided, misleading piece.
Looks like at least a third of Cosmo readers have a gun. I wonder how much that “freaks out” Cosmo.

Yes sir’ee. A man is judged by the number and size of his chainsaws...and his other tools!

Yes sir. I used to have 5 of those, but I finally pared them down to two that I could handle easily. One of those is a brute, but is needed for the larger jobs.

I’m sure Cosmo is not liking the result of their poll. I love it. Too bad the rag is so liberal - they have some great articles.

If the rifle seems heavy, perhaps do some practicing shooting off of sandbags? Bench rest shooting could help one get familiar with the weapon. After a bit of that, one could learn to do some limited amount of "offhand" shooting. A good rangemaster could hook you up with a proper helper, possibly.

Many shooting ranges have some movable wooden cradles, some even have or supply a few crude sandbags. Call around, or better go visit one. Just drop in and take a look around. Bring hearing protection, if only cheap earplugs...

Just for sake of curiosity, what model/caliber is the rifle? Fell free to send answer by Freepmail if there is a privacy concern.

You might as well learn to shoot it.

The shotgun, too. One can practice with low-base (lower power) shotgun shells. Maybe have someone put the shorter barrel on. That should lighten the gun. Or do it yourself, if it is an 870. A gunsmith might do it for nothing, it's so easy. Usually...
