Pit bull owners say neighborhood ban won't make them part with dogs

Since Shelly Kizina adopted her pit bull Jada four years ago after finding the dog abused and tied to a tree in North Carolina, the Northeast Baltimore resident and her pet have been practically inseparable, she said.

"I brought her here, and she's been like my best friend. She follows me everywhere," Kizina said on her porch in the Armistead Gardens neighborhood Sunday, as family members watched the Ravens game inside and Jada sat by her side.

That Armistead Homes Corp., which manages the low-income housing cooperative, has demanded Kizina and other neighborhood residents with pit bulls get rid of their pets is "insane," Kizina said.

"I don't care what they do," Kizina said. "I'll sell my house before I get rid of my dog."

You are making it sound as if bulldogs have this ability to hide their aggressiveness and then suddenly snap.

Every other bull dog attack story I read includes the line about the dog never showing any signs of agression before.

Two years ago my wife and I were in the market for a dog. We were looking for a small dog - we live in a townhouse and don't have room for a larger dog to roam. We went, among other places, to Howard County Animal Rescue. There we found that about 90% of the dogs they had available were pit bulls or pit bull mixes. Most of them were adult dogs as well. We ended up going to a breeder in Carroll County where we bought our Silky Terrier, Sir Winston.

I found this whole website very interesting; but your specific argument points to this page:

BTW, dogs are bred for certain traits. Temperament/personality/character ARE NOT excluded from the gene pool. Breeding - and thus, the whole breed or type (in this case) - can indeed be blamed. Not every dog who acts shy or aggressive was “abused” - that’s a bunch of BS taken right out of a PETA playbook.
