Obama’s Middle East Delusions ... Victor Davis Hanson
PJ Media ^ | 17 Sep 12 | Victor Davis Hanson

The Premodern Middle East and Postmodern West Don’t Mix, Mr. President

Globalization certainly did not bring the premodern world of the Middle East closer together with the postmodern West — despite Barack Obama’s 2007 narcissistic vows that his own intellect and background could bridge such a gap. If anything, the more we know about each other, the more we sense we are back to Lepanto and the siege of Vienna. Since the 9/11 anniversary attacks, the Obama administration has seemed bewildered, petulant, and more or less shocked in Casablanca-style fashion about the hatred shown the United States — whether overt among the Arab Street, or implicit among Arab governments’ wink-and-nod inability to protect U.S. embassies. It apparently forgot some basic rules about how to deal with radical Islam, and instead regressed back to the old familiar appeasement that led to 9/11/2001.

I. Pretexts

Mr. President, do not obsess over the pretext of the day. Terry Jones is only as crude as Andres Serrano and his Piss Christ, which I don’t recall warranted a personal call from the chairman of the Joint Chiefs to the artist to cool it, much less a federal effort to detain a Coptic filmmaker. Sometimes Muslims will rage at a Rushdie novel, sometimes at a papal reference to a Byzantine letter, and at other times at a supposedly flushed or torched Koran. Or maybe a grainy amateurish video will be set them off to kill a nun, blow up a priest, burn down an embassy, or assassinate a Western ambassador. There are three-hundred-million-plus free-thinking Americans, and thus at least that many possible “slights” — if you choose to go down that road of blaming free expression rather than the primeval mind that objects to it.

A long read but worth it.

What enrages me is that a good part of the world is burning (mostly american values, property and lives) and our despicable president (and media) goes on as though nothing is happening.

I would like to know one single thing of value to the world that mohammedanism ever created. Strife and destruction follow every path they have ever taken and anywhere they take root.

To Obama its not about the embassies burned and trashed or the Americans slaughtered.
His concern is that the terrorists didn’t respect HIM.

Even though the radical muslims know he is not really a muslim (wink, wink), he expected them to be thankful for all he has done to help them.
And he expected them to show their gratitude and respect by not doing anything to embarass him in these weeks before the US election.

zero is a narcissistic street organizer, How could he be anything but bewildered and petulant by what is being laid at his feet.

Americans have never voted for a guy less up to the job.

What decision has he made on his own that turned out positive for the
country?

How many more wrongs can we sustain?

Could he actually win again? I don’t in my gut believe it.

The entire subtext of Obama’s outreach narratives (made explicitly in his al Arabiya interview) is that his own unique pedigree and worldview have exempted him from American pathologies and thus culpability for them. In the alternate brain chemistry of the Obamites, there is no contradiction between worldwide Islamist vows to kill our diplomats or burn embassies and Obama’s much-vaunted boasts of restoring American popularity abroad.

Here's some more of Obama's "outreach" -

http://dailycaller.com/2012/09/17/fighter-jets-in-democratic-conventions-military-montage-were-turkish-not-american/

The fighter jets at the democrat convention - the ones flying above Russian ships are from Turkey. They're Islamic fighter jets. Now I could just about buy the excuse that the Russian ships were a mistake - but Turkish jets? As a tribute to American vets? It's a third finger salute.

I felt the same way at this point during Clinton’s first term. He began with ‘don’t ask don’t tell’, thus opening the door for homosexuals to join the armed forces. Then came Hillary’s attempt to secretly and underhandedly create a health care bill.

The first time I ever heard the name Saul Alinsky was in reference to Hillary’s earlier political leanings.

Then came the assault weapons ban. Combined with Waco, and so on.

Personally, I was stunned that Clinton could even be reelected, but he was.

“If anything, the more we know about each other, the more we sense we are back to Lepanto and the siege of Vienna.”

BS; the Italians and the Austrians didn’t call Islam a religion of peace. When the Sultan’s galley was captured at Lepanto, he was beheaded and his head hung from the mast to demoralize the Turkish fleet.

(To this day Spaniards alone are not required to abstain from meat during Lent because of their performance under Don Juan of Austria at Lepanto)

Wow. The more I think about this, the more this picture you linked to encapsulates the fundamental issue with liberal “support” of the military.

Liberals only “support” the military for three reasons:

1.) As a political tool

2.) A jobs and social engineering program

3.) To gain money for industries in their district (and this, only grudgingly since they would rather see the money spent on “comically useless social programs”.)

Their contempt for the military shines through in the example. But to those of us who pay attention, this is typical.

They can’t be bothered to report accurately. They will call a B-52 a “fighter”. They refer to a frigate as a “battleship”. They call Marines “soldiers”. They cannot even get the nomenclature of units right, which would cost them nothing more than an easily placed phone call to a military media liaison to do so.

What it really tells military people (and I have begun to use that term rather loosely when referring to current and ex-military who support liberals) is that liberals don’t give a rat’s ass about the military. If they did, they would understand that these seemingly minor details are important to the military community.

It isn’t too hard to picture the horn-rimmed glasses wearing, ear-pierced metro/homosexual stereotype proudly displaying the images he planned to show at the DNC being told by a shocked military supporter that the images were not of American units, but from those of their potential enemies.

It is easy to envision the dismissive response of “That isn’t important. People don’t know the difference, and besides, these are much more impressive than any pictures I could find of our own military.”

Equally creepy about this picture is the “Thank You” signs. Like every single thing liberals do, this has the stink of groupthink. You get the impression that not one person in that entire picture could possibly care about the military, yet...they were issued identical “Thank You” signs handed out by the same people who despise the military, and they willingly hold them up.

They readily will do something they might find distasteful, disagreeable and ideologically repulsive because it will suit their political purposes, a bizarre form of taqiyya for kafirs.

It must be terrible for the MSM knee pad sycophants to know all their hopes and dreams of a democratic ME was actually a fantasy...they thought the one guy who could transform the Arab street rabble into a coherent movement of democracy is now shattered.. ...And like children they are off pouting instead of asking the hard questions ....

Here is the message Obama should be sending to all the Islamic countries currently engaging in anti-American activities i.e. murdering our citizens and destroying our property:

Dear Islamic peoples and heads of state:

It has come to my attention that a great many of you have been carelessly murdering some of our citizens and engaging in extreme, anti-American rhetoric. Looking at your respective country's situation as far as standards of living, respect for the rule of law, and educational systems, we can see that most of your citizens are not the most productive people in the world. You have no respect for the rule of law and the rights of anybody not male or Muslim. Many of your citizens are either illiterate or too stupid to learn. And in conjunction with their stupidity, they are exceptionally violent. In short, they're total losers.

There's not much we can do to improve the situation of many of your older citizens, but we do have ways of protecting our citizens and our property from the likes of the millions of useless, mouthbreathing troglodytes who make up a large portion of your populations.

Should these unprovoked, anti-American attacks continue, we will be forced to use extreme measures of our own to counter them. We wil not stop at merely ceasing the billions of dollars in foreign aid we send to your corrupt and venal politicians for them to put most of in their Swiss bank accounts. We will start engaging in drone strikes on parts of your population we deem most violent. If the attacks continue, we will start strikes on your political institutions. If your attacks keep up, we will start thinking using more extreme measures. Get my drift?

sincerely yours
Barack Obama

The article should be required reading by both our scum sucking administration AND our scum sucking media but most of them are not bright enough to understand most of it. I thought it was an excellent and to the point read.

You seem to feel this was a mistake - a slight to our military. With most liberals, I’d agree, but there’s a pattern here worth thinking about...Freeper ETL in an earlier comment points out the ‘red stars’ used at the last DNC Convention four years ago ... I passed on that one at the time... one item - someone got their symbols mixed up - I could buy the liberal excuse - but not this time.

Obama’s not stupid. What if the red stars were intentional - a message to his handlers? Red stars were easy to overlook - could have meant anything. But not in combination with Islamic jets and Russian ships.

The picture at the DNC Convention was a montage.

Turkish planes were NOT flying over Russian ships... the picture was cobble together from at least two pictures. Liberals think Obama’s charming, sincere and stupid. They believe these were simple mistakes. Maybe the ships OR the jets or the red stars could have been a mistake - but not a three... Obama understands metaphors - he wrote poetry as a young man - visual metaphors are equally powerful...
