Without aid Egypt totally implodes in short order. Tourism has crashed since the glorious Arab Spring and they don’t come remotely close to feeding themselves.

With sky high grain prices they’re gonna be in a world of hurt without massive aid.

They haven’t actually suspended any aid, but simply talks about a new aid package.

So does this mean we are not going to borrow the money from the Chinese at interest to give it to the Egyptians to use against Israel and the Coptic Christians?

I suppose that it would be more efficient if the Muslim Brotherhood borrowed it directly from the Chinese and cut out the middleman.

If the military in Egypt has no power after all of the aide we have already given them through the years as a reward for the now disavowed Camp David Accords, then what good was it anyway? Now the accords are no more, so the reward should be no more as well.

You know, I’ve wondered if they (radical rioting Muslims in Egypt) would be so bold as to tear up the wondrous history in that country...like they’ve done in other parts of the world. They don’t care about those pyramids, etc., and destroying them would be another way of flipping off the rest of the world.

Stringent, non-negotiable conditions should be attached to Egyptian aid.

"Congress should exercise its oversight powers to evaluate the aid package and the Morsi government’s suitability for continued aid. It should approve the debt reduction package and continued foreign aid only if the Egyptian government makes ironclad commitments to:

Fully protect U.S. citizens and property, particularly the U.S. embassy and other diplomatic posts;

Maintain the peace treaty with Israel and stop deploying additional forces in the Sinai without prior Israeli approval;

Cooperate in fighting al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations; and

Implement policies that protect the rights of its citizens, including freedom of religion, expression, and association, as well as due process of law".

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch. </sarc> Actions have consequences. Maybe they can ask the OPEC nations to help them out.
