Absolutely.

He’d better hurry, though, before the 47% taker-to-payer ratio turns into 53%.

So, what would Ronald Reagan have done?

Appologize and say that the statement was taken out of context

- or -

Say, “Damn right, I said it, and I meant it”.

Romney said that working people who did not make enough to pay federal income tax are lacking personal responsibility. That's not only a potential election loser, it is inaccurate and class warfare at its ugliest.

In a generation we've gone from Ronald Reagan to Thurston Howell.

Romney isn’t going to get any votes from Obama’s loser’s anyway, he may as well tell it like it is.

It is hard to imagine the vacuum and bubble that would exist around a person during a campaign. I am sure the nitpicking media attack dogs and nervous advisors distort reality for any candidate who constantly has to worry about screwing up.

Romney was right in what he said and I pray he sticks with it. This is language that wins elections and draws clear lines between himself and Obama. Political correctness might win temporary favor from reporters and nods inside the beltway, but it won’t win elections.

Right.

The MSM is handing Mitt perfectly FREE campaign PR. Mitt has to play it for all it's worth.

All he has to do is reiterate ad infinitum the very words they find SO objectionable.

Mitt yanked the scab off THE Liberal running sore.... STAY RIGHT THERE and keep WORKING IT!!!!

The MSM can be counted on to broadcast it wholesale and at NO expense to Mitt's campaign!!!

When is this guy going to remove his reverse gear? If he is so intimidated by a gaggle of Marxist “journalists”, what kind of a President will he really make? How will he stand up to Putin, Hu, and Middle eastern wackos?

Carney put out the big lie that Romney doesn’t recognize that he will be president for those who didn’t vote for him He didn’t say that and didn’t imply that. He simply said that he would not fret that as much as 47% of the electorate, that they don’t pay income tax, could not be persuaded to his side, and that they were beholden to Dems for goodies in exchange for their votes. All of this is true. He didn’t say or imply that he would ignore them or not be their president. Obama clearly is not a president of all the people but that would not be true of Romney. The Romney camp should be able refute this rubbish in a more convincing manner than I.

What Romney should now go after are the reasons why those on fixed incomes have to go on food stamps and other “benefits” such as energy assistance etc.

The price of food, the cost of energy, driven up by regulations and prohibitions designed to change the systems of distribution and use of resources to conform to a socialist ideal

However the “off the cuff” statement looks weak and like he’s looking for excuses.

Why can’t we just be strong and stop apologizing! Darn it!

The root problem is the 47 percent includes retirees. The percentage romney should have been referring to is 47 percent minus whatever percent represents retirees. That’s the percentage of takers. Not all retirees are bums.

Never attack voters. Attack policies.

The only thing wrong was the 47% figure. Had he said 30 or 40 there really is no issue.

Just jettison the percentage and say damn straight.

But knowing how things are in the New England states and Washington, we can expect both a big government bureaucracy that does little for the people and a people under the thumb of that big government bureaucracy who will have to rely on themselves for subsistence.

At least now Romney is separating himself from Obama so as to give a clear choice, before he was considered by many Conservative as Democratic-Lite, which may still be true to an extent, but at least now there is a clear difference between the two.

On self reliance issues, Romney is a hell of a lot more conservative than a lot of politicians. Yes, he’s a RINO on gay rights and flip flopped on abortion, but you can see in his policies and his personal life that he is not one to give handouts to the undeserving. If the ONLY thing he does is cut spending, that will be enough. We need someone who is willing to get the deadbeats off the federal teat. It sure as Hell wasn’t Compassionate Conservative Bush, who did get handed everything and thought government spending equaled compassion. Maybe if will be Romney. Comments like this give me hope.

I like that whenever something comes up, Romney calls a press conference and deals with it. IF the media wasn’t so biased, they’d actually start reporting about how Romney is open and up-front with the people through the media, while Obama won’t answer any questions.

But they won’t.
