Catholics Then, Muslims Now [NYT Op-Ed on why Muslims deserve our trust]
The New York Times ^ | 09/18/2012 | DOUG SAUNDERS

Posted on 09/18/2012 12:09:14 PM PDT by Alex Murphy

During the Republican primaries, Muslims were accused of harboring plans for “stealth Shariah.” A group of five Republican House members, led by Michele Bachmann, groundlessly accused two prominent Muslim federal officials of loyalty to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood. Another Republican representative, Joe Walsh of Illinois, used a campaign rally to suggest that Muslims in the Chicago suburbs were plotting to commit terrorist attacks. In New York City, the police spied on thousands of Muslims for six years without producing any evidence that could lead to an investigation....

....From the 19th century on, distrust, violence and, eventually, immigration restrictions were aimed at waves of Roman Catholic immigrants.

As late as 1950, 240,000 Americans bought copies of “American Freedom and Catholic Power,” a New York Times best seller. Its author, Paul Blanshard, a former diplomat and editor at The Nation, made the case that Catholicism was an ideology of conquest, and that its traditions constituted a form of “medieval authoritarianism that has no rightful place in the democratic American environment.”

Catholics’ high birthrates and educational self-segregation led Mr. Blanshard and others — including scholars, legislators and journalists — to warn of a “Catholic plan for America.”

Many Americans shunned such views, but some liberals did not. Mr. Blanshard’s book was endorsed by the likes of John Dewey and Bertrand Russell, and respected scholars like Seymour Martin Lipset, Reinhold Niebuhr and Sidney Hook debated Catholics’ supposed propensity toward authoritarianism.

Then, as now, there seemed to be evidence supporting the charge. Majority-Catholic countries like Spain, Italy, Portugal and Austria, had fallen into fascism or extremism. Crime and educational failure were rife among the children of Catholic immigrants. In the years after World War I, Catholic radicals carried out a deadly wave of terrorist attacks in the United States.

Of course, some Muslims in the Chicago suburbs actually were plotting to commit terrorist acts, and were arrested for it recently.

There was evidence. Damning evidence, that Huma Abedin was involved with the Muz Brotherhood. Yet again, RINOS and DemoRats defended the Muslims at all costs. It was excruciating to watch McCain attack Bachmann for no reason. Some people are simply blind to the truth.

[NYT Op-Ed on why Muslims deserve our trust]

They've done SO much to earn it (as has the NYT).

It’s an editorial proving that the NYT’s editors are beneath contempt.

May as well add the NYT to our bombing list after the war with Islam starts.

And it will indeed start.

When was the last time one of us Mackerel-Smackers flew a planeload of people into a skyscraper?

Or rioted in the streets because someone insulted St Peter?

Muslims have been involved in blowing up and setting fire to Christian churches, sometimes with the Christians inside them. They are responsible for the murder of thousands of Christians all over the world. yet we don't hear a word about it in the media and there is never any outrage. To say that Muslims deserve our respect proves that the NYT is ran by some of the dumbest bastards in the world.

Like you would expect from Old Gray Whore, they miss the little fact that we have never been attacked by Catholics in the name Catholicism and Christ.

We HAVE been attacked by Moslems in the name Islam and Allah.

That is a good enough reason NOT to trust Moslems. ANY of them.

Peter wasn't a "Catholic", but Constantine was.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I was unaware of any Catholic terrorist attacks on US soil.

This is the same NY Slimes that ran cover for Stalin's genocidal starvation holocaust against the Ukraine.

They are still the enemy within.

I guess I missed the part in history class where 1950’s Catholics were running around killing people.

Let's say everything written by the slimes here about Catholicism is true.

BFD.

It has nothing to do with Shariah and is irrelevant. Shariah law cannot be reconciled with our traditions, institutions and especially our Constitution.

Any muslim who wishes to join our military, our government, or immigrate to the US, must be required to denounce Shariah law as a precondition.

Actually, Constantine was baptized by an Arian bishop, who proceeded to persecute defenders of the Council of Nicaea after the emperor died.

Doug’s just another self-important, cherry-picking liberal dumbass:

Christians who murder non-Christians are not - and cannot be - Christian.

Muslims who murder non-Muslims are still Muslim...and they even get a “Kudos” from their “God”.

That’s why Islam is not a religion and it can’t be compared to any actual religion.

we should take care to make sure that history does not repeat itself...
Ah, yes, we should take care. It’s all our fault. So what should the Muslims do? Apparently nothing but continue on with the honor killings, suicide bombings, and incidents of workplace violence. Nothing for us to worry about unless we exercise our rights, in which case the Muslims will let us know they are offended by launching violent mob attacks and we can submit to their demands. Submit, that’s what ‘Islam’ means, right?

Bachmans charges were not unfounded.

When your Mother, Father, and Brother are part of the Muslim Brotherhood, it is a pretty good chance that you are too.

This is the New York Tomes. NEVER expect the truth from them.
