Easy prediction: The percentage of Gov. Romney supporters will increase between now and Election Day.
The video release was met with gasps from the left and yawns from the right. And that's one reason I doubt it will change the state of the race. The question of whether creating an entitlement society is a good idea or a bad idea represents a fundamental divide between Democrats and Republicans.
And it is a fundamental divide that is more often discussed among Republicans than among Democrats. Liberals just take it as a given that the government should be a wiping our noses all our lives. Recall that Democrats at the convention cheered their stomach-turning video that proclaimed, "government is the only thing that we all belong to," at least until the Obama campaign disavowed it. At the time, Romney succinctly stated the Republican counter-point: "We don't belong to government, the government belongs to us."
So Romney's point in the video holds. Voters who have embraced the entitlement class weren't going to vote for him anyway. And no one's arguing that Romney was wrong on the facts. Indeed 47% of Americans do not pay federal income taxes and 49 percent of households receive some government entitlement.
A final reason to believe that this video won't shake up the race is that a similar "utter disaster" once happened to a candidate named Barack Obama, when video surfaced of him talking to rich donors about hard-to-persuade working-class voters: "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." Obama won that race handily, suggesting that gaffes are much more interesting to commentators than to voters.

Yes, I was thinking it was like the “bitter clingers” comment too.
I sometimes say this facetiously, but this time I really don’t understand why this is a scandal. I understand why it freaks lib’s out, but isn’t that because this is what Mitt’s suppose to believe? Why is what he’s supposed to believe scandalous?
At least the race card is not involved. Although now that I’ve said that I realize it almost certainly has been played.
Lib’s = libs
I used to think Jimmy Carter was a low-life, but he doesn’t hold a candle to his Grandson.
Liberal media’s turned Americans’ world upside down.
No scandal here - Romney’s recent comments about the Middle East and these comments leaked from a May get-together make me think there is hope for this man yet. Keep it up, Mitt! Tell the Truth- no apologies ever.
I am hoping this media circus is the beginning of the great voter backlash which will turn against Obama.
49% government entitlement + givernment employee unions = socialism
Wouldn't it be illustrative if one of the polls asked if we, the taxpayers think the non-taxpayers shouldn't have the right to vote for more?
That just happened to be the belief of the founding fathers, only those that had a stake in the outcome had a say in it.
That's why it will be great when Romney has a solid win. He will be able to point to the fact that he was very up front with the American people, to make the changes that he knows need to be made.
Romney has said two things that are true, and he needs to stick to them. 1) People who aren’t contributing aren’t going to vote for him; he doesn’t, and shouldn’t, expect them to.
2) The Palestinians aren’t interested in peace. They have had numerous opportunities to have it since 1948 if they wanted it. They don’t. It’s time to stop pretending they do.
What video? You mean yesterday’s BIG story? Please!
