House Republicans pass bill funding Planned Parenthood, Obamacare
Catholic Online ^ | 9-18-2012 | Catholic Online

Bill requires all health plans to cover contraceptives, sterilizations A $1.047 trillion bill funding the federal government through March 2013 has been passed by House Republicans. The bill includes the regulation that took effect on August 1 that will require virtually all health plans in the U.S. to cover, without fees or co-pay, sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives -- including those that induce abortions. LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The vote passed by a wide margin of 329-91. The bill now goes to the Senate for expected approval next week. The bill also funds the government for six months into the new fiscal year and for almost five months after the November elections. Congress turned to the stop-gap measure after failing to pass any of the 12 appropriation bills necessary to fund day-to-day government operations. Declared unanimously as an "unjust and illegal mandate" by the bishops of the United States, the body declared the Obamacare sterilization-contraception-abortifacient regulation one that violates the right to free exercise of religion -- not only of Catholic institutions, but also of Catholic business owners and workers. The bill does not prohibit funding for either Obamacare programs or Planned Parenthood, nor does it stop the government from enforcing regulations, such as the mandate from the Health and Human Services Department that nearly all health insurance plans provide contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs free of charge. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), described the health insurance mandate as an "unambiguous attack on religious freedom in our country" and a violation of the First Amendment protecting the free exercise of religion. Boehner supports the CR along with the GOP House leadership.

I am thinking that some of you need to calm down.

We do not have the votes to win in the Senate, and there is no way Obama will back down on this, and we have an ELECTION to worry about.

Congress has not passed a real budget, this is a continuing resolution, and those things almost always fund what has already been approved.

This is the 6 month CR till end of March.

With all this talk of the automatic defense cuts House Republicans could have repealed or delayed them in this CR but chose to once again play it easy and avoid a fight and then later they will claim they opposed it,

Is this inspiring ? : “Vote for us so we are not forced to support bills like this any longer”

Allen West votes for funding PP and Obamacare and Dennis Kucinich votes against it.

I’m speechless.

Why would West and Brady, Olson, Culberson and Farenthold - all supposed conservatives from TX - vote for this? I don’t get it.

Yes, I heard it. To keep government functioning, it is an extention of the budget to begin January, 2013, for five months, so Romney does not begin his term broke. Congress then goes to work dismantling the policies the budget pays for, under a new president. It isn’t related to policy, but to the treasury for five months, beginning in January. The budget by law funds what congress has legislated; PP among it.
