This is one of Orwell’s themes in `Nineteen Eighty Four.’ The state can’t compete with the family, so the family has to be eliminated (its influence over the child) or at least diminished so that it is no longer a threat to their authority.
The statists’ ultimate goal would be complete in loco parentis authority in school authorities, with children trained to report directly to them.
In the book, children belonged to an organization called the `Spies’ and as informants could have their parents arrested and/or killed.
I hope these parents thumb their noses at the ACLU by hiring a hall and carrying on with their dance. This has to be the most frivolous, outrageous attempt at social engineering they have ever filed.
While I in no way support events like this being banned, I can speak as a child whose father died early, that I often felt “less than” when I was excluded.
I want these types of events to continue — I don’t believe you make all miserable to accommodate those who can’t participate — but it would have been nice for those who planned these events when I was growing up to have figured out a way to include me and others. It is not the fault of the child that she is without a dad. Growing up that way is hard enough.
(Preparing to be flamed — some of you Freepers can be so ugly when challenged.)
Now, Americans are rendered truly sexless beings. Only the homosexuals are recognized as normal beings!
This lousy society is overwhelmed by the lousy central socialist govenment who hates Christianity, loves muslims, and is destroying our lives and economy.
What the hell are we going to do if we’re confronted by the Mack truck instead of the Moped?
