Athens metro, tram and ISAP railway on strike

Fixed-track public transport services were disrupted on Thursday, as unions for the Athens metro, tram and Kifissia-Piraeus ISAP electric railway embarked on a 24-hour strike in protest of new cuts to state spending and wages, part of a new austerity package.

They also oppose possible increases in tickets prices and have called for tickets to drop to 1 euro while demanding free transport for the unemployed, students and those on low pensions.

Commuters on Thursday were using buses and trolleys as alternative means of public transport.

Let's see, they want ticket prices to drop so that revenue drops so that they can get higher wages.

Every German who pays taxes probably felt like they woke up to a hangover this morning. Sucks to be them. Just after the Germany courts ruled it was legal to use German taxpayer money to bail out Greece via the Euro system, the Greek transportation workers go on strike. This is actually pretty funny. They can all stew in their own juices, and meanwhile we have our own problems at home cuz we’re headed in the same direction if we don’t get Obama out of the White House.

The most overused word by liberals during the past 3 years has beeen “greed”. Yet “greed” is never associated with unions.

Here is an economy on the brink of collapse, and here comes the unions to give it a good shove over the cliff. In the name of more money.
