It’s called the United States Of America circa 1800s. The government was funded largely thru tariffs, property taxes were common but not universal, and most remaining taxes were on specialty/luxury/undesirable items (whiskey tax a prime example). Skies were blue over land one _owned_ (not rented), pie was acquired by the sweat of one’s brow from work thereon, people provided their own security, and the tax man was rarely encountered ... pretty neat in fact, populated by people who _moved_ there knowing the freedoms it provided were worth the hard labor it demanded.

The notion of taxing citizens on dang near anything they do is pretty recent.

If you live in this country it’s WAY past time to start paying your FAIR SHARE!

That means EVERYBODY pays the same percentage. PERIOD!

I know it’s never gonna happen because the thugs in congress would lose their power to control the masses.

Ah, yes the good ole days.

When only some white men could vote. When we were driving the Cherokees out of the South East and the other Indians from their lands in the West. When at least 50% of the newborns died and our average life expectancy was around forty. When giving birth was the biggest threat to a woman’s life. When 95+% of the Black population was under the whip and the lash.

I doubt there was any state which did not tax property.

There is no way to finance a military or fight a war without income taxes. This is a truth, not a pleasant one, but a truth none the less. For a developed country tariffs are insufficient revenue earners, for the world distorters of resource allocation, and they protect obsolete industries. They were initially used only because they were the only efficient means of raising revenue.

I agree with him. Everyone should pay a tax not so much that it will raise substantial revenues from the 47% who currently pay nothing. It won’t. But it will mute their desire to load up with more entitlements if they now now that some of the cost will be coming out of their pockets.

If 10% is good enough for G-D then it’s good enough for the Gov’t.

OK kiddies - Here is where your great ideas fall apart:

1 - Obama extended unemployment to 99 weeks -

2 - After the 99 weeks runs out - Obama’s thugs show how the freeloaders get on SSI with no income taxes

3 - Obama already doubled those on untaxed Food Stamps to now 46 Million peeps

4 - Obamacare forces everyone not buying into Obamacare to pay a $1200 tax - that will increase every year

5 - “Pigford” & “Pigford II” kids! Tax free Millions just handed out to all the “Baracks” that “really wanted to be farmers and ranchers but couldn’t” - That was all Bullshirt.....
-

6 - “Waivers” by Obama and his “Obama-Rigged” HHS Secretary Kashmachine Seccubus for the uber-religious poor Muslims that object to Obamacare - Muslims, being “special”, are exempt!

7 - Earned Income Credits - Mexicans (and Phantom dependents) even living in Mexico listed as dependents - IRS/Treasury is mailing them huge checks of OPM (YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

The list of Affirmitive Action crapola goes on forever - Whitey is not “special”

- Words are cheap - Obamaville is expensive Kiddies

- what is it?

REDISTRIBUTION! (Communism)

“I believe in redistribution!” - Obama - 1998

I happen to agree with Kaine here. EVERYONE should have to pay income taxes. That’s part of the problem we have and Mitt said it the other day. Only 53% pay income tax. It should not be 47% paying nothing.

Yes, we all agree that everyone has to pay sales tax, well then you make the income tax for the poorest people a very small number. $100. $500. Something like that.

The bigger point is that when 47% aren’t paying income taxes and getting free stuff, then they don’t feel any need to question what they are getting or the cost of it. They have zero skin in the game. If you pay for something, you care about it. If you contribute money to something (charity, taxes, etc), you care about how it is spent, whether it is wasted, etc. We have too many people in this country not paying for something so there is no accountability from those citizens because it doesn’t cost them anything.

I think he is dead on right. EVERYONE should have to pay something. That will engage a lot of people to get damn ticket off at the waste and will finally get them to sit up, take notice and demand reform from their gov’t. When half the population isn’t paying anything in income taxes, THEY DON’T CARE how it is spent.

Constitutional CAP on taxes of 10%!

Which would mean you could have a 5% tax on income and 5% sales tax, or a 10% sales tax with 0% on income. But NO MORE THAN 10%.

We really need to limit the government to 10% if the FEDERAL government can’t live on 10% then it is too big!

Hidden taxes and payrol deductions are the most insidious things as they can hide the taxing on the poor and then they throw them the welfare bone and they have a voting block (the democrats do) that will never go away.

We need an amendment that limits the total federal tax on a person or entity to no more than a cumulative 10%.

We also need to fund a certain amount of federal functions from a tariff and put a cap on the tariff or make it so that if country A has a 10% tariff we charge them 10% as well, if country B has a 3% tariff we tariff them 3%. Other countries make us the fool and fund their crap via tariff that screw us over, why do we have to play all nicey nice....

We “should” be able to fund all the federal functions with just tariffs alone IF we went back to the functions described in the constitution.

The big news: socialists want all of the tax hikes they can impose, because they receive fat incomes from the debt regime. Too bad they won’t drop their local anti-competition regulations, because they like sitting idle and collecting money, including federal funds from their Uncle Samantha (inspectors, planners, fire persons, teachers, social workers, all). There are fewer kids, much less construction and declining real revenues (as opposed to recirculating debt) due to the outlawing of small manufacturing starts and too many onerous regulations against private property rights.

Most political/regulator folks believe that the recirculating debt can sustain an economy (big revenues in, little dropping of revenues out = net fat revenue consumer).

BTW, the right answer is to radically cut spending—especially pork. Let people work. Get out of their way. Muzzle the environmentalist, animal-worshiping, anti-competition gossips in every community.

How does that work? People at minimum wage would make more than people just above them. And who can live on the minimum wage? Such jobs typically don’t offer full time hours anyway. There should be a way for people who want to work, and do work, to at least survive on the wages earned. We don’t have that.

That is a technical question to an Economist, not an emotional or ideological one. According to supply side economics there is an Optimal tax rate which will produce the maximum of tax revenue. When you are on either side of the Laffer Curve an inappropriate rate (either higher or lower) will produce less revenue.

Since every time that rates have been cut (Harding, JFK, Reagan and Bush) the revenue has gone UP, I would suspect that the rate is too high.

But the Congress spends that increase in revenue and MORE so it really doesn’t matter except to the tax-payer many of whom vote for Democrats. We know the spending is too high.

Technically, any time someone pays a sales or excise tax of some kind, that person is taxed.

In truth, this must be one of the only countries to have ever existed in part by paying people to lay around, eat and live free, and have cell phones, A/C, transportation and TV.
