INDIANAPOLIS - A man was killed after he shot an employee at a popular Indianapolis gun store Monday, police said.
Police identified the man as 26-year-old Brian Wayner of Indianapolis.
The shooting happened just after noon inside Don's Guns at 38th Street and Lafayette Road.
Don Davis, the store owner who has become a local celebrity with a string of quirky commercials, told reporters Wayner came into the store, rented a gun and fired three boxes of ammunition at the attached range.

I've been in his shop a couple of times in the past... his typical customers are the local riffraff and 82 Olsmobile's sporting 24" wheels fill the parking lot. Along with gun sales, Don rents guns to the people who can take them into the back range and shoot on paid time. If I'm not mistaken, I believe you can even rent Class III weapons and shoot them onsite (I've only been told this third-hand). In my short couple of visits, I've watched the comedy unfold as untrained and flat-out stupid people unwittingly wave loaded weapons around while asking how to operate the thing. It really is a circus in that place, he's got some huge stones keeping that place open in that part of town. But he knows his niche... they keep coming in and paying astronomical prices for their beloved Hi-Point .45's and he keeps on taking their cash.
It’s the empty chair’s fault.
Oh, and Wayner’s chair is now empty.
I hope he gets his money from the jerks family or estate. Gotta open up bright and early tomorrow.
Don’t know about Indiana but in Kansas a gun store employee always carries and is authorized to shoot to kill even if the offense is theft.
The “one killed” was the perp, fortunately.
“The one killed was the perp, fortunately.”
That was the only person I expected to die as soon as I saw the headline.
I always ask idiot gungrabbers why no mass shootings ever occur in places where guns are everywhere - ranges, gunshows, stores, etc.
When I lived on the West Side, I shot at that store/range a few times, but ONLY when I wasn’t willing to make the hour+ drive to Atterbury or another range.
You’ve nailed it on Don. High prices to sell crap to ghetto trash and gangbanger wannabees. The range was more dangerous than the ‘hood.
Isn’t this the same store where a clerk was murdered about ten years ago?
paging mr darwin,.. mr charles darwin please pick up the white courtesy phone. we have a candidate for you
I don't know when was the last time you went to the Atterbury range, but that place sucks. My first trip there was about a year ago and the range guys are a-holes... it's a place run for children. After all of their rules and interruptions, you get to shoot about 20 minutes out of every hour. Most annoying range I've ever been to
No luck with finding a pic of Brian Wayner, 26, Indianapolis.
About ten years ago (maybe longer), a lone employee was in the Lafayette St. store (I think) at night and a guy came in and just shot him. Then, the guy and three underage accomplices emptied a ton of guns from the store.
They murderer was reported to have said something about not being taken alive, but was eventually cornered in a tree.
