I think you hit the nail on the head right there. If they can’t cut the DOD budget when we’re drawing down two wars, it’s got nothing to do with national security needs, our government as a whole is just plain committed to excessive spending.

Exactly, That appears to be what Republicans claim. In the deal O made sure that all Dems Golden Calves were exempt from cuts while R's thought that putting their OWN Golden Calves up for automatic cuts would be a winning strategy against Obama. Don;t ask me why they think this way.
The problem is that Republicans are too obvious, It is way too easy to show they supported those same cuts last year, and now Romney got caught saying the same seniors he says he is protecting from any cuts in Medicare (not us as we are screwed) are a bunch of moochers. Romney's primary supporters are booking.

But that guy at the gym is right, if Obama wins he inherits one hell of a mess from himself. Maybe that is some Rs strategy all along. But living in Maryland the Dem gloating will be hell.

We will never get this country back on track until we get rid of about 95% of the GOP in Congress and replace them with Tea Party candidates.
