Rather than spend two days in in-school suspension for allegedly letting another student copy her classwork, Taylor Santos, a well-regarded student and athlete at Springtown High School, near Fort Worth, Texas, chose to get paddled.

This girl is too old to be spanked by ANYBODY.

Since she is an outstanding student, she probably was pressured to let someone else cheat off of her. A token punishment like cleaning the schoolroom would be enough for a first offense.

Texas has always allowed spankings. Back when I was in junior high, there was a big stink about doing away with it. It’s also known to everyone that one person, usually a male vice principal, is the lord of the paddle and there is always a witness. In the case of girls, it’s a woman witness. Yes, there’s that sexual context but then there are lesbian principals so if it’s not one it’s the other. Schools usually give the students the option of getting swats or doing time in detention. Sorry if some here don’t like it, that’s the way it is. Anyone who opposes it can run for school board and change the rules.

However, according to Texas CPS regulations, a parent isn’t allowed to use anything other than an open palm and then they darned well better not leave marks. Yes, double standard. So, if the girl still had marks by the time she got home, then her mama should have been heading straight to the CPS office to have it documented and an investigation brought against the vice principal, the witness, the principal, the school and the school board.

Due process? The girl and her mother were given a choice. They made the decision. In every school I've ever been to, if you didn't like/agree with the punishment or options by the vice principal, you appealed to the principal, then the superintendent, then the school board. If it was especially grievous, you could take them to court. Sounds like due process to me.

9/10 times, I will side against public schools, their union reps, and the democrat politicians that defend them and open the trough to them. Do I believe this girl is a bit old to be spanked? Yes. Do I believe the mother should've given the okay? No. Do I believe in public school? No, see my above posts as well as earlier posts I've made on other threads.

In this instance he seemed to have the legal authority to administer the punishment. He even had parental consent. If someone was asking for permission to spank my child, I'd be asking the basic interrogatives of Who, What, When, Where, and Why. This "mother" apparently didn't bother to ask any of those, but now she wants to bitch and moan about it. What she should really be complaining about is her own bad decision making ability.

I'm willing to bet that this school probably doesn't have a lot of the feral animal problems that other schools have.

This post, I agree with you. But, as I noted earlier, strangely absent from this story is the girl's father.

I agree with spanking, but please don't think I am advocating this girl should've been spanked (she's a bit old to be spanked and it violated the gender policy).....except this isn't a chose your own adventure story. You can't flip ahead to page 34 and then say, well I don't like that, I'd like you to return to page 19 and unspank my daughter.

Mother and daughter made this decision. The rules and punishments (in theory; this is public school we are talking about) are there to deter bad behavior and demonstrate actions have consequences. You can't say, I'll choose this punishment and then turn around and say, I didn't like that punishment, you should've punished me another way. As I stated earlier, if the mother was contemplating agreeing to the spanking she should've asked who, what, when, where, and why.

Both mother and daughter learned actions and lack of action have consequences.

Little Miss Taylor requested the paddling...

I want to party with her when she grows up.

She should have been made to lick whipped cream off the vice-principal’s knees!

Rather than spend two days in in-school suspension for allegedly letting another student copy her classwork, Taylor Santos, a well-regarded student and athlete at Springtown High School, near Fort Worth, Texas, chose to get paddled.
As her mother, Anna Jorgensen, told ABC News affiliate WFAA-TV in Dallas, Taylor didn't want to miss any classes because "her grades are very important to her."
So Santos went to the vice principal's office to request a paddling. She called her mom, who said that as long as her daughter was OK with it, so was she.

I don't see what everyone is b*tching about. She requested it in lieu of detention. I think Mom is bellyaching because she wasn't spanked.

[Oooh! Spank Me!}

Not any more. The district just changed their policy.

Now male government employees may spank female students at that school. Because government employees at public schools are *certainly* not well-established as desiring to engage in sexual behaviors with minors.

(Do I really need a sarc tag?)

The only solution I can see is to SPANK the mother.

Is she the "spanking" type?
