Intel pulls funds from Boy Scouts over policy barring gay scouts and leaders

The Boy Scouts of America has lost one of it's biggest corporate donors, Intel, who announced Sunday they will no longer fund the organization until gay Scouts and leaders are welcome within the organization.

Eagle Scout Zach Wahls, founder of Scouts for Equality, launched a campaign urging Intel to pull funding from the Boy Scouts after a report revealed the company gave nearly $700,000 to the Boy Scouts in 2010.

"Intel made the right decision here, in order to live up to their corporate values of diversity, equality and individual liberty," said Wahls. "Companies that support the LGBT community simply can't be in the business of funding organizations that discriminate.

In a statement released Friday, Intel's Chief Diversity Officer, Rosalind Hudnell, said that the company could no longer fund the Boy Scouts of America, so long as the Scouts stand by their long-held policy barring gay troops and leaders from participating in the organization.

Intel is one of the largest employers in the Valley.

Just one faggot named in the lawsuits with a connection to Intel ~ as a reseller, employee, manager, or major customer’s buyer ~ and that’s where the lawsuits get referred to ~ Intel ~ I am sure somebody in Boy Scouts’ defense team is on that right now, and that could well be the link anyway.

When Elton John holds a concert with male dancers, dressed as Boy Scouts, who writhe suggestively on stage, and the crowd goes wild, that’s a link.

Perhaps you're just reading into this . . .

National funding does support some things that make it down to local level, like training for adult leaders. The individual troops are, however, almost completely financially independent, and could easily become fully independent if necessary.

In fact, the troops give a lot to the national organization through dividing the money collected through popcorn sales. I have been with my son's troop the past two weekends while they sold popcorn outside a large grocery store - I won't cause the store problems like a boycott by revealing their name.

The sale have gone really well, and that's good because National dramatically increased our quota this year. Almost everyone reacted well to being asked to buy. While not everyone bought the expensive popcorn (with today's economy? Are you kidding?), most responded with statements of support, and many gave a dollar or two as a donation.

There were two negative incidents: one guy gave a dirty look and spit on the ground; other dude stuttered that he would buy "when they stopped discriminating." I'm guessing these guys are not morally straight.

Well - unfortunately this isn’t true. While troops might be self-sufficient (some aren’t..) the level up troops run ONLY on donations from the community. I’m talking about the council level offices. That place where you bought your uniform or the Scout Master ordered the merit badges costs money to keep open. They have staff there that oversees record keeping of the Scout’s advancement, coordinate operations of the Summer camps owned by the councils, etc. Money for these operations comes primarily from donations.

“Intel promotes pedophilia.”

Agreed.

It gives a whole new meaning to “Intel inside” (tm).

Cool. Sounds like it's continuing on unimpeded. Built a fire on the beach once and my family was wondering “where’d you learn that?” - BSA.

What you said and.....why do organizations like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts need “corporate support” from anyone? What they need is leaders! When I was a Girl Scout leader, a long time ago, there was no corporate support, and there was very little parental support either. How did corporations ever come to be involved anyway?

Things must have changed because I bought my uniform at a department store, and my gear anywhere. We only participated in a couple state or national events, though. Pretty much went to meetings and camped wherever. I try to donate whenever I see them, though, because I remember raising money for new tents. Was still in the Army surplus jobs when I moved away.

YUP.

Did you hear the recent scandal that in the old days they had some boys molested?

Well, apparently that is proof to the left that they need more gays leading boys into the woods.

weird.

The Girl Scouts are into Wiccan and Planned Parenthood. I would never let a girl into that group

I certainly hope my son will be able to make it through Scouts before the (real) haters get their way.

I went through outdoor training a few weeks ago with a bunch of other new leaders and some seasoned vets there to guide us. We all tried to avoid politics around the campfire, at first. But it became obvious that no one in our group had any patience for the agenda that some are trying to shove on Scouting.

If the "progressives" get their way, most parents I know intend to remove their boys. To hell with National if they cave on this. We can form our own underground troops and organization.

Yes, the stark line is drawn, and you are either on the side of civilization and morality, or the side of moral anarchy and relativism. I see this as healthy. It’s been a long time coming.

As is only fitting, Intel just effed itself.

Fine. AMD has a new customer.

I love that people are walking with their money, but has anyone checked out AMD's position yet? I don't know what they believe, but we can't just assume.
