As the U.N. General Assembly convenes this week in New York, several leaders of mostly Muslim nations are suggesting that the world body consider sanctions on blasphemy, amid widespread protests against an amateur movie that denigrates Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he will focus at least part of his remarks on the film when he addresses the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday.
“I am the prime minister of a nation, of which most are Muslims, that has declared anti-Semitism a crime against humanity. But the West hasn’t recognized Islamophobia as a crime against humanity. It has encouraged it,” Mr. Erdogan told reporters last week.
Turkey heads the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, a body of 57 nations, which has long pushed for a U.N. resolution condemning the “defamation of religion.”
Nonbinding versions of the resolution have been adopted, but the effort was crushed last year by religious groups and human rights activists who argued that it represented a dangerous step toward an international law against free speech.
The debate has been reignited by “Innocence of Muslims,” a crudely produced film made in the United States that has sparked fury in the Muslim world. Protesters have breached the walls at U.S. embassies and desecrated American flags in sometimes violent demonstrations. A protest in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi ended with the deaths of the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton appealed Monday to Muslims to show “dignity” and not resort to violence as they protest the film, the Associated Press reported.

I’m curious to see how any American supporting this protection of Islam squares it with applying the same standard to Christianity (or any other religion for that matter).
First the ban, then the requirement to convert to islam.

We as citizens must seriously consider the attacks being made on the 1st Amendment and 2nd Amendment. These two amendments essentially constitute our oxygen.

It is an assault on free speech, and a grab for control alright. First Islam will be protected. Then “to be fair” other religions too. But I ask you, how big does a religion have to be to be protected against these hate/thought crimes? Certainly we don’t want to discriminate... Every kook out there - and not a few well planned and backed groups - will spring up with a religious grievance. Goodbye to everything on the liberal hit list: talk radio, internet sites like this, you name it. The list of forbidden words phrases, actions, thoughts will grow by leaps and bounds. All in the name of not offending anyone’s religion, but really just to control us, stifle dissent from their power... The easy result of this thought experiment is to see there is no reasonable bound, best not to start down this path at all. Best to recognize no one ever promised you wouldn’t be offended. Get over yourself, suck it up.

If this was 1944 this would be the same as having the POTUS backing the arrests of anyone saying Hitler was evil.

islam is in itself an insult and a crime against humanity. The entire ‘civilized’ world should ban it and then shun any nation which practices it. It is completely incompatible with Western civilization and the West is being brought low by its perpetual toleration of the intolerable.

How heavily enforced are antisemitism laws enforced in other countries? I doubt that saying anything against Jews is really punished. It is when those words and actions are combined with criminal acts such as rape, robbery and murder then it is punished more so for the crime.

Now I know why 0bama slipped and said 57 states. The POS is a practicing islamist. Smart money says his daughters marry a scumuzzy.
The movie protests were started to hide Hillary’s incompetence. The Arabs would have never heard of it if not for her.
Perhaps she will have equal vigor in condemning the Mooselip murder of Christians and Jews as she is ending free speech?
