Paul Ryan stood by helplessly, and in apparent pain, as Mitt Romney strayed from campaign talking points on President Obama's tax record during a joint "reset" rally today in Ohio.
In the midst of remarks ridiculing the president's handling of the economy, Romney said: "I admit this, he has one thing he did not do in his first four years - he's said he's going to do in the next four years, which is to raise taxes."
During the primaries, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul offered a very different view of the presidents record, when she told the L.A. Times: "President Obama has raised taxes 19 times."

Great point. We're voting to fire Obama, not elect Romney. Although, I still feel like a hypocrite because I admittedly stated "NO MORE RINOS," but I can not stand by and watch this socialist, anti-American destroy this country!
Without exception, only idiots voted for him in the primaries.
My vote is not in question.
But if you or anybody else expects me to turn into some sort of Romneybot...you've got another thing coming. Ain't happening.
We have this odd tendency to pretend the income tax is the only tax. Therere like a billion of them.
Yes, but if you’re one of the 47% that didn’t pay federal income taxes last year you’re a parasite according to the mindless chorus.
Ryan’s thinking, “And I hitched my wagon to THIS star?” Oy! Ryan would be a much better candidate for Pres. than Romney. I was hoping I’d like Romney better as time passed; I like him less.
Well, if the media reports this as a mistake it will highlight the fact Obama did raise taxes, just not income taxes.
The 47% thing has been confused with the old Calhounian majority voting wealth into their own pockets problem. Romney certainly confused the two. What he and others are missing is that just because you pay no net income taxes does not mean you are a tax eater. Firstly thete are a lot of other taxes. More importantly thinking so obscures the fact that a lot of tax consumers are middle class—naturally, since they are the preeminent voting power—for instance government employees or rich, for instance corporate welfare queens, businessmen whose businesses exist because of government intervention, and government employees.
....Romney's warning people...The Bush cuts are still intact...but unless the Congress does something about it SOON, they will expire.
I saw ABC and knew there had to be more to the story, the Bush tax cuts.
I Don't Believe The Liberal Media!
It is embarrassing to see how so many Freepers the MSM can play like brainless Pavlovian dogs.
Yup....the ONLY thing different from The Messiah and Romney-the-RINO is the (R) printed on the ballot. He's a RINO through-and-through, and IF he loses, it's because the GOP-E force-fed another RINO to the Conservatives.
We have painfully learned that the Republican primaries are full of idiots too; we already knew that long ago about their Democrat cousins.
And that is true...and of course, Obama has claimed that people have actually been paying lower income taxes right?
Sounds good to the folks who told Howard Stern Paul Ryan was Obama’s running mate.
Those people will never understand that when you don’t have a job - don’t get a raise - or you endure a pay cut - of COURSE your taxable income is going to drop.
I wish they would talk more about gas prices, cost of heating oil, food prices, utility rates.
Everyone is getting squeezed
Technically creating new taxes and raising fees is not "raising taxes".
I had a bogus lane violation that I contested. It cost me $25 to see a magistrate; I beat the ticket, but I did not get that $25 dollars back. The process assumes guilt and makes one pay to prove their innocence. That is a fee! Not an increase in taxes, but a "real" expense incurred none the less.
I do not know, nor do I care about the context Romney stated that Obama did not raise taxes, but I can understand his empathy with Obama, in the case of generation of government revenue, they are similar.
Is there some sort of dope that Romney and McCain got hooked on?
How can two such lousy candidates have been put forward by the Republicans.
The really sad part is that at this time there is nothing we can do but vote for this _________ (sorry I had to leave it blank, my knowledge of the English language cannot find a descriptive word that covers what I think this early in the morning. Nothing I can place here and not get banned anyway.)
Ginghrich should have been the nominee!
Haven’t I said this since the beginning? He’s playing to lose.
It’s not even “technically correct.” Lowering deductions raises income taxes, and the $2,500 cap on flexible spending accounts does exactly that.
go get em tiger !!! this is the tool thats going to save the Republic ???
good thing he has an army of believers to nuance his words and explain them to the voters...
Sadly, the ABOs have to defend statements like this by twisting and spinning them so they seem a bit palatable by conservatives and even their own conservative principles.
At some point, 1010, Romney had better unleash on Obama what he unleashed on Gingrich, Perry, and Santorum
If he NEVER does, then what will you think?
Personally, I will think the fix was in all along, that beltway folks love each other and don’t really care who wins.
I’ve seen Newt on the news the last few nights, and I listen to him talk about the MidEast, about the economy, about anything, and he does it so clearly, so pointedly, and so to the throat at the Obama Administration, and I simply sigh.
So which is worse, a candidate who once couldn’t keep his hormones in check or a guy who seems to have taken a pacifist vow during the general election?
So there are only 41 DAYS left ‘til the election.
I view TV randomly, and I’ve not seen a single Romney ad here in my part of OHIO this week. I’ve seen at least half a dozen Obama ads, more than that probably.
We hear Romney’s husbanding his resources for a final assault. 41 DAYS out it isn’t important to set the plate for the first debate with hard-hitting ads. That’s not how he treated debates with Gingrich. Remember the releases about Gingrich’s failed marriages? Those shaped the battlefield prior to the Florida debates.
Now it’s Mr Nice Guy. OHIO, 1010, the Cincinnati market, the largest metropolitan statistical area in all of Ohio, and I’m seeing NOTHING. (Add Dayton, similar to Cincy in so many ways, and by far the most populous area in the state.)
So, being nice, Obama hasn’t raised taxes.
Gingrich, on the other hand, says of Obama, “He’s not a serious person. He attends only 39% of security briefings. On the day our embassy is attacked in Benghazi he goes to Las Vegas...”
And Romney says, “He didn’t raise taxes.”
I’m waiting for Romney Shock and Awe, but I’m afraid I’m gonna get “Nice and Easy”.
