NAACP claims discriminatory admission practices at [New York] city's elite high schools

The NAACP has filed a bombshell complaint with the U.S. Department of Education, alleging discriminatory admission practices at the city’s elite high schools.

In a blistering document delivered to the feds Thursday morning, the NAACP accused the city of barring black and Latino students from eight of its “best public schools,” including Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, where only 1% of students are black. “Black and Latino students don’t see opportunity at places like Stuyvesant because of the admissions process,” said NAACP attorney Rachel Kleinman. “It’s not fair and it’s bad policy.”

The city’s Specialized High Schools Admissions Test is the only method that is used to judge students for admission to the eight elite high schools.

The NAACP believes the grueling exam is unfair to black and Latino students because they are denied admission “at rates far higher than other racial groups.” Nearly 31% of white students and 35% of Asian students who take the test are offered seats at the top schools, compared with just 5% of black students and 6.7% of Latinos.

The NAACP doesn’t specify how the test discriminates against blacks and Latinos, but Kleinman said those students may lack tutoring and other resources. Education officials hit back against the NAACP’s complaint, arguing the test is color-blind.

I have an idea. Why does not the NAACP and La Raza
and the two “Reverends” start a fund raising campaign
to support the hiring of tutors for black and brown students.

The liberal elite sends its kids to expensive NYC private schools. The public exam schools have many bright kids from middle and low-income families.

Sad to say, it does, and it doesn’t. That Asian rate ought to be up there well over 65% ~ so they are screwing with the results.

It’s “not fair” if you born to parents who are crack-head degenerates who consumed massive quantities of alcohol and smoked when they were pregnant. It’s “not fair” if you have a twisted DNA giving you a low IQ. It’s not fair!

It’s not fair!

Stuy is an outstanding school, one of the best in the nation. It is very difficult to get in. Parents that can afford private school send their children to Stuy.

I got in during the early 80s, but I went to Regis instead. A private, all scholarship school also in nyc. And Stuyvesant’s superior. ;-)

The schools can shrug and say if the test is discriminatory, it is the city’s fault, since it’s their test, so sue Bloomberg. And good luck with that.

Bottom line, pick about any standardized test and black students will do poorer on it than other students. This is not the fault of the test. Nor does it mean that black students should get something they have not achieved.

Sorry. At some point, society has to put its foot down and accept that losers are losers, and deserve no support if they cannot or will not improve themselves.

While indeed there was discrimination in the past, it is almost entirely gone, so the rules to correct it need to be gone as well.

Lemme guess - - the tests and admissions criteria are exactly the same for everybody, and that's not fair to blacks?

Five black players and one white player. Shouldn't we `diversify' NCAA football?

LMBO!!!
It's Ubamaworld now, and "color-blind" is not the way good Democrats are supposed to think. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Our public high schools in Rochester NY. Only 10% of the blacks graduate. These were the very best schools around in my day.

Instead they want to put the black and hispanic kids into classes where they will do poorly, drop out and feel like losers.

Why do they want to do that to these poor kids?

Look at what happened up at Harvard. A bunch of their football and basketball players got expelled for cheating. Why? Because they were put into environments where they were competing with other kids with perfect SATs and IQs of 150.

Don’t these liberal do-gooders realize the suffering they cause?

I remember waaaay back in 1967, when NC finally intergrated its schools, I had a world history class. Most of the black students were failing the class and the teacher got the word that he must lighten up on the black students.
