The Weaker Sex (Safe to say The Atlantic = Misandry)
The Atlantic ^ | September 25, 2012 | Sandra Tsing Loh

Posted on 09/27/2012 9:45:49 AM PDT by C19fan

Today’s women have achieved a goal that social commentators have inveighed against for centuries: economic independence. Railed The Times of London in 1868, in opposing property rights for married women: “The proposed change would totally destroy the existing relation between husband and wife.” An American letter-writer declared in 1903:

........................................................

Into this gloomy landscape, however, strides Liza Mundy, her bold new vision encapsulated in The Richer Sex: How the New Majority of Female Breadwinners Is Transforming Sex, Love, and Family. Instead of being a castrating, unmarriageable harpy, today’s reproductively and economically free female, Mundy asserts, is the trigger for a challenging but exciting new social order. In 2012 America, as she points out, women are better educated than men (women earn the majority of bachelor’s and graduate degrees); an escalating number of single women younger than 30 earn more than their male peers; and nine of the 10 U.S. job industries with the most projected growth are women-dominated. This last figure has resulted from various societal shifts, ranging from a late-20th-century fall in manufacturing jobs to the rise of such lucrative, almost exclusively female professions as psychotherapy. (Indeed—do you know a male therapist? I don’t, and my last therapist charged a murderous $275 an hour.)

All you need to know is the subtitle of the piece:

How the new gender economics has more and more professional-class women looking at their mates and thinking: How long until I vote you off the island?

The Atlantic has to be one of the most misandrist publication out there.

And the militant feminist beat goes on.

In 100 years, I’d like to see how we’re faring as a species. Then I’d like to compare that to birth statistics over those 100 years to see which societies were most and which were least prolific in breeding.

America, and most of the western world/culture, is destroying itself through a stigmatized reduction in breeding habits. It’s no longer socially acceptable to have more than 2 children because you’re supposedly leading to the collapse of the Earth’s resources.

Women, likewise, are leading the charge on this bullshit with their fancy degrees supposedly imbuing them with the power to say that bearing children is no longer necessary but just something that those traditional-thinking hillbillies do. Men, in turn, are moving back in with mom and dad, playing video games, smoking pot and drinking themselves into moronic stupors while incessantly watching porn.

The decline of western society is due in large part to the militant feminist movement, the feminization of men, and the degradation of the family through secularization and isolation of Christianity as a social more.

“How long until I vote you off the island?”

That’s what usually happens when women get involved in a traditionally male-dominated activity. As more women join more men leave.

What will women do when they have taken over everything? Complain, whine, and kvetch?

Another sexist bigot heard from. This obvious man-hater must forget that many women are mothers of sons, who will face an ever-worsening situation in life...hardly a cause to celebrate.

Things change as one gets old. Who will visit these perpetual spinsters in the nursing home?

More proof that all the talk by activists about "equality" is cover for the real goal - control.

Race, gender, gender preference, the same goes for all the grievance groups - they dont want equity, they want to be the ones holding the gun.

That was a nice surprise. Some of the comments make better writers than the rambling Loh.

With the coming economic storm and decline of Western Civilization, the only insurance one has is to make lots of babies and raise them right. No property or savings will be safe from coming governments and without a large number of progeny watching out for you, an elderly person will live at he mercy of the state.

We have all seen just how merciful socialist governments can be.

It’s no longer socially acceptable to have more than 2 children because you’re supposedly leading to the collapse of the Earth’s resources.

I am 27 and have NEVER heard that..the reason young couples are not having more than 1-2 kids today is

1.)They cannot afford it and

2.) many are selfish..they don't want kids to get into "their time". A women in my gym just had a baby 2 months ago-age 26 or so..said no more kids because she wants to get back into her IIFB Bikini bodybuilding program and is worried that more than 1 kid is going to ruin her washboard stomach.

Men, in turn, are moving back in with mom and dad, playing video games, smoking pot and drinking themselves into moronic stupors while incessantly watching porn.

Strong over generalization. I don't know any guys my age who are slackers like this...might watch a little porn every so often(who doesn't) and we still like our video games every so often but we also have full time jobs and careers and I don't know any guy who has moved back in with his parents unless they are right out of college. This is not as big a problem as you make it out to be.

The weaker sex is the stronger sex because of the weakness of the stronger sex for the weaker sex.

I would urge you to look outside of your general area, hiker. I can list dozens of “men” in their late-20s, early-30s who are hopelessly dependent on mommy and daddy and can’t hold down a job to save their own hides. My 29 year-old brother is one of them!

I don’t disagree with your assessment that selfishness plays a huge role in this, but to what do you associate that?

Personally, I see society shaping that selfishness, and I see much of the female selfishness stringing back to the militant feminist movements of the 60s wherein women were supposedly emboldened to be “free” of children or cares when it comes to sex. On top of that exists this sense of entitlement by the Boomers and that mentality creeping into the psyche of everyday Americans.

I don’t yet have kids at 32, but my wife and I are trying. We don’t see them as a burden but as a gift, even if that means years of no sleep and hardship. Raising children isn’t easy, but it is necessary to keep our species and our culture alive.

There are plenty of women who have ended up moving in with mom and dad (or never leaving) as well. My sister was one, she had to move back in with them after I refused to keep letting her live with me without paying rent. Finally, after years, she got her own place again just this year.

The main reason that you see this more with men than women is not just the economics of women making more money, or men being lazy. It’s because women are insulated, by virtue of their sex, from the economic pitfalls that send men back to mom & dad’s house. If a woman loses her job, and can’t pay her rent/mortgage, she is not going to end up homeless, because she will have no trouble finding a man to provide her with room and board in exchange for sex. Even the ugliest, most unappealing woman can find some man that is willing to barter for her assets. Men simply don’t have that option, which is why we end up homeless or living with the parents in much larger numbers.

I think these articles are scaremongering at best...men are not going to be obsolete anytime soon... yeah women are taking over some industries men controlled at one time but we(men) are going into other new industries or redeveloping ourselves.

I know plenty of marriages where the man makes significantly less than the wife and the woman does not look less at her husband..woman don't care as long as the husband is confident, likes his job and is good at it and is ambitious no matter what it is.

It's not just the West that is changing..the developing countries have had larger percentage decreases in the number of kids per family-much more than the developed countries.

BTW, Most people on FR have strong, independent, educated, smart daughters as in the type of women in the article and encourage them to succeed in their careers...

. Life is what you make it...

And a major reason why they can't afford it is because so much of a middle-class couple's gross income goes to taxes, to support the Welfare State.

Add to that the high cost of college, which is mandated by the job market.

In nearly 40 percent of American marriages, the wife earns more than the husband. Data indicate that this power inversion can trigger not just problems with gender identity but a troubling amount of male infidelity (peculiar new trend: women who are financially dependent on their husbands tend to be faithful, while, paradoxically, financially dependent men tend to stray). One 2010 study showed that when a woman’s contribution to household income tops 60 percent, the couple is more likely to divorce.

I would suspect that a wife who earns more is more likely to treat her husband worse, thus increasing his tendency to look elsewhere for affection and sex.

After college, single men don't generally like living with other men... especially in groups of 3 or more.. I know many female living arrangements where there are 3-4-5 younger women living together and sharing expenses...rarely see this with men..not to say it doesn't happen.

Or possibly the wife is working boatload of hours and the more dependent guy has more free time on his hands..
