Fox News poll: 79 percent say all Americans should pay income taxes (63% agree w Romney)

A large majority of likely voters believes all Americans should pay some federal income tax -- even if it is as little as one percent of what they make.

Seventy-nine percent say everyone should pay something, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday. That includes 85 percent of Republicans, 83 percent of independents and 71 percent of Democrats.

According to the IRS, last year approximately 41 percent of tax filers did not pay federal income tax. The Tax Policy Center estimates that will increase to 46 percent this year.

Most voters (73 percent) are at least somewhat familiar with the widely-broadcast videotape of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney talking about “47 percent of Americans” and the number of people paying no federal income tax. Romney also talks about his concern that the country is becoming an entitlement society and that many are too dependent on government. Journalists and pundits speculated the tape would damage Romney’s campaign. Yet a 63-percent majority thinks the substance of Romney’s comment about dependence on government is mostly (36 percent) or somewhat true (27 percent).

Good news for the 47% video. It had no impact. Now let's blow out the marxist in the debate and launch the ads.

Uh-oh. Certain FReepers will not be happy.

Wonder what they think about negative income taxes, or if they are aware? After all, it's for the children!

How about tax reform that does away with the following taxes.

Income Tax gone, Cap Gains gone, Death Tax Gone, Corp Tax gone, and Gas Tax Gone.

The only Federal Tax would be .03 to .09 on every money transaction, stock, or forex trade.

Average Family with $100,000 income would pay 4000 per year.

Government Tax income goes up, HOW?

The Secret is everybody pays the transaction tax, including, General Electric and major money movers.

It is not a sales tax like NRST, which is my distant second choice.

23% National Retail Sales Tax is a stupid second choice.

Our country would recover immediately from the depression.

Foreign Capital would flow back in to the US, along with manufacturing, and industries that moved off shore.

The "government" has no skin in the game. They just steal the money from everyone else.

Let's make this issue a little clearer:
Romney should talk about his concern that the country is becoming an entitlement society and that many are too dependent on the American TAXPAYERS!

Of course! Milton Friedman devoted an entire chapter recommending it in his best-selling book Free to Choose. (To be fair, he envisioned it replacing, not supplementing the hodgepodge on overlapping programs we have now.)

yes, foreign capital would come rushing in, because one thing money loves is heavy transaction taxes.

I hate taxes, but until we get to a fair tax or flat tax, it’s time for EVERYBODY to pay something. Once you do have skin in the game, you might all of a sudden become aware of how your tax money is being wasted.

the problem is... most Americans think they already pay income taxes and DONT! they pay social security and medicare taxes and don’t understand that those are NOT income taxes.

You think different, why? By the way I was a trader, and this is for short term traders, it works for profitable traders.

If we have nothing but .03, of course if you do millions in transactions that can be worked on tier basis too.

I think it would work.

Our present system will not help us recover, we are so backed up in this economy it will take 20 years to recover if then, with our current system.
