North Korea's Potemkin Village: Derelict Empty Shell "Hotel Of Doom" Symbolizes NK Supremacy

The truth about North Korea's glittering 'Hotel Of Doom' built to symbolize country's supremacy: There's nothing but a derelict shell inside

North Korea's Ryugyong Hotel, After 25 long years of being left to languish unfinished, it continues to be a deeply strange blot on the skyline of North Korea, and has reportedly even been airbrushed out of official shots by an embarrassed regime, The Daily Telegraph reported. It has become an object of scorn for the rest of the world, with Esquire magazine branding it the 'worst building in the history of mankind' in 2008.

From the outside, its shiny windows and soaring towers make it look decidedly futuristic and luxurious.

But after visitors walk through the doors of North Korea's Ryugyong Hotel - which has taken twenty years to build - they see it is just a concrete shell.

The interior of the 105-story, pyramid-shaped resembles a multi-storey car park, with its concrete floors and bare columns.

Beijing-based Koryo Tours got a peek at the vast interior of the hotel in Pyongyang, the capital.

The photos taken reveal a bare concrete lobby, as well as sweeping views of Pyongyang from a viewing platform.

Apart from the view, the hotel has little to offer - as there appears to be no cables, furnishings, or even pipes.

And yet, the TV show "MASH" insisted on a non-stop diet of:
US Army=BAD,
USMC=Homicidal Maniacs
ROK Army=Sadistic Monsters,
poor little North Korea=GOOD.

It didn't really take 20 years to build, as in they were working on it the whole time. They were building it and abandoned the project while it was still just the core structure, and left it abandoned for years, exposed to the weather. Then pictures of it, like the above picture, and articles about it started circulating around the Internet, saying it was abandoned and eventually would collapse.

Then the North Koreans noticed that we had noticed it. This really looked bad for the North Korean regime having an ugly, falling apart mega skyscraper hovering over their capital, so they decided to fix it, not by demolishing it or finishing it, but wrapping it in a glass shell so it looks finished. That might offer a bit of protection from the weather but it will still just sit there and rot away till it collapses. It has probably already been deteriorating too much to salvage.

If it really is unusable, that thing has the makings of one hell of a controlled demolition after the regime falls and Korea is reunified.

It’s empty because its not a hotel. Its a cleverly disguised super gun capable of hurling nuke shells into the south. The north buttress is on a line with Seoul.

Looks like they put a nice shiney skin on it, but beyond that it should be a feature of the ghost city of Shanghai. Sorry, all you multiculti enthusiasts, but Asians are still idiot children compared to the West.

I don’t know. It looks pretty nice, except for the parts that are falling off, like the whole left side in that picture above, which they seem to have patched with some sort of rice glue.

Speaking of brutalism:

In the summer months, Prince Edward Island in the Canadian Atlantic Maritimes is just about paradise. So, finally cruise ships started taking people into its main port, Charlottetown. The problem is that downtown Charlottetown is dominated by some of the worst brutalist architecture I’ve ever seen in a town of such modest size. It’s like the cruiseport is in the island’s bung hole.

How about a chocolate fountain? Does their buffet restaurant have a chocolate fountain?
