Dolores Huerta, the iconic figure who co-founded the United Farm Workers union with César Chávez, will be in San Antonio today for three events, addressing mostly Democrats and DREAMers, young immigrant rights activists working for passage of the DREAM Act.
Huerta said her message will be similar to what she has told generations of farm workers she helped organize for better wages, safe drinking water and toilets in the fields. The bottom line for all grass-roots organizers, she said, is to engage in civic action, to get people to participate, to make democracy work.
