Wasserman Schultz On Debate: Can't Discount That Romney Is "An Experienced And Skilled Debater"

On MSNBC's "The Ed Show" tonight, DNC chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) severely downplayed any expectations one might have of President Obama at his first debate with Mitt Romney.

Wasserman Schultz called Romney an "experienced and skilled debater," that he has done severe debate prep and that the incumbent has lost to his challenger in the first debate in previous election cycles.

"Let's not discount the fact that Mitt Romney is an experienced and skilled debater," Wasserman Schultz said to Ed while discussing the upcoming debate next week.

"Keep in mind though, he's a pretty decent closer, and he's had a lot of time to prepare for these debates. During the Democratic National Convention, reportedly he did a week of debate prep camp, he's gone through 48 hours and done five debate practices," Wasserman Schultz said in response to host Ed Schultz, who said Romney has been all over the place politically.

"President Obama has been practicing but he's got a day job and he's been trying to balance that," she added.

"He's going to be prepared -- just coming on to the stage with the President of the United States gives you some gravitas right there," the Congresswoman said.

"Five out of the last six first debates in a presidential campaign, the challenger was declared the winner. So let's just keep in mind that we can't take anything for granted. We're focused on the ground game, we've got 40 days to go," Wasserman Schultz noted.

A “moderator” simply isn’t as good as a teleprompter.

By bet is that they’ve already forwarded Obama a complete list of the debate questions, and suggested responses.

I hope “0” gets his butt handed to him on a plate so even a moron can see what he is made of.

No way, they're blaming Obama's poor debate performance on Bush.

Obama: "This is the debate performance I inherited".

As long as Barry Soetoro is giving out free phones to the 47 percenters, he’ll do okay in the debates. He’ll hit a “home run” and they all will be “game changers”. (A little commie lib lingo there).

If Romney goes bulldog and attacks Obama like he did Gingrich in the Florida primary debate, he'll win.

If he plays nice with the Marxist Kenyan, he'll lose.

That simple.

DWS knows very well that Mitt will use the deadly 'Me too' in a variety of formats just to stifle debate where Obamugabe is strong.

That's going to lose him some votes ~ maybe half the Republicans.

I'd advise Mitt to forget everything he knows and read some old Ronald Reagan speeches over and over until he gets the 3X5 card stuff down pat.

Then he can walk away from the debate with some votes in his pocket.

just another face lift for the coming sessions in Congress. nothing more than that, but there’s little even a skilled surgeon can do to fix the problem so recuperation has been short for an older lady.

“just coming on to the stage with the President of the United States gives you some gravitas right there”

What does this mean? I she saying something is special about being the president of the USA? He is just an American right. Our elected officials do tough jobs and challenging work and do need to be protected not of who they but its what you do.
During the debates they are equal and both should act like they are the president.
