Fed's Fisher says U.S. "drowning in unemployment"

RICHARDSON, Texas (Reuters) - The United States is "drowning in unemployment," its economy is running at stall speed and inflation is "not a problem," but easier monetary policy is not the answer, one of the Federal Reserve's most hawkish policymakers said on Friday.

"We've had a recovery that is quite disappointing," Dallas Fed President Richard Fisher told a group at the University of Texas at Dallas.

But without more certainty on tax policy and regulation, he said, "all the monetary accommodation in the world" will not get businesses hiring again.

But no one could have possibly done any better.

Welcome to the Era of Diminished Expectations and the official end of American greatness.

No, no, no, no, no - the economy’s on the mend, employment is up, and, anyway, you can’t expect Obama to fix everything in only four years, right?

What are they talking about? Obama's created almost 100,000 new jobs since he took office!

Granted there were 4.3 million jobs lost in Obama's first year in office, but since 2010 he's "created or saved" 4.4 million jobs!

According to CNN/Yahoo yesterday, that makes Obama a Job Creator!

IMHO Bernanke and the Fed have been Obama and Reid’s enablers.

After stimulus #1 and easy money failed, the Fed should have demanded fiscal restraint.

Obama's created almost 100,000 new jobs since he took office!

This week new jobless claims "unexpectedly" dropped to 352,000 from last weeks 382,000 (and the 0bamaloons were crowing about the "improvement"!). If you calculate on a four week month that's about 1.5 million jobs lost per month. That's huge! If you are one of the unfortunate ones, it is more than huge!

Hey, this is great, no?

So the polls tell us incessantly a majority of the American people love 0bama and think he is the answer?

We need four more years of this? I don't think so!

The polls are certainly depressing. But then again, common sense says argues against Americans thinking the current situation is acceptable regardless of the MSM propaganda.

I guess I still hold out hope that this will be a ‘Chick-A-Fil’ type election. That is, the MSM tells us one thing, while the actual vote proves them wrong. We’ll see.

Unemployment has been above 8 percent for more than three years; inflation is currently below the Fed's goal of 2 percent.

8%?? Those are BLS Liars Numbers. The real unemployment is near 23%. Those are depression era unemployment numbers. The BLS numbers for U6 are about 16%. He is right, we are truly in uncharted waters.

Alternate unemployment graph from BLS data but not "adjusted". Basically U6 without the tweak. Frightening. Notice the divergence in trendlines beginning in 2009. Major issue is the drop in workforce participation data. Those who are unemployed, but no longer looking for work. Figures do not lie, but Liars figure.http://www.shadowstats.com/imgs/sgs-emp.gif?hl=ad&t=1347024005

the polls.....there is an adgenda there and we all know it....

beyond that, its irrational to me that the number of "conservative" or "republican" or "military" or "white guilt" or "isn't it great our first sort of black president" crowd will do it again....even if its just a couple of million votes, Romney will win....

but it is what it is.......all I know is if we don't vote, or we vote third party, then we can not complain when we are in WW3 or our 401's are confiscated, or they go house to house searching for guns....

Buck up people...

the other thing...is I do not answer polls and neither do the two people I live with...I expect alot of independents and conservatives don't either....
