Craig Evans must have thought things couldnt get any worse after he accidentally sent a saucy text message intended for a lover to every contact in his phonebook.
How wrong he was!
The 24-year-old swimming coach ended up in prison for sex offences after the text also found its way to two young schoolgirls.
Evans had typed an intimate invitation to his girlfriend asking her if she would like to engage in sex with him skin on skin.
Excruciatingly, a slip of the fingers on his BlackBerry smartphone resulted in it going out via BlackBerry Messenger to all the numbers on his phone.
But as well as having to deal with the humiliation of his family reading the message, Evanss mistake led to far more serious consequences.
Among the recipients of the text were two girls aged 13 and 14, which led to Evans, who teaches swimming in a leisure centre, being arrested and charged with causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He was jailed for 18 months at Birmingham Crown Court in July.

Bet he doesn’t call it a “smartphone” any more.
It sounds like the Brits have freed up a lot of space in their prisons.
Seems a bit much to sling the man in jail for an honest mistake in which no one got hurt. Especially in a country that regularly gives non-custodial sentences to chronic burglars and muggers whose actions are deliberate, malicious and genuinely damaging...
I don’t get it. I’ve been using smartphones for years, including the Blackberry, and I don’t remember having the option of messaging everybody in my address book all at once. I didn’t think that was even possible if you wanted to do that on purpose. Can somebody explain how you can do that accidentally?
Seems tome you would have to put together a “group” consisting of all the contacts on your phone. But, for the life of me, I do not know what kind of message I would want both my niece and my doctor to have!
Imagine if obama muffed his blackberry like this...
Really bad form, from the British point of view. You're supposed to leave that sort of thing to the schools.
I agree. I don’t see how this can be done at all, let alone accidentally.
It’s also true, however, that 4 muzzies convicted of a home-invasion in Britain probably wouldn’t get more than a month in jail.
Maybe they got the story wrong, and he just sent it to a group.
It would seem logical for a teacher to have one group representing everyone in his current class, so he could communicate with them about homework and the like. And possibly similar groups from past classes.
Maybe the reporter got it a bit wrong.
This is nuts and it would be easy to find out if it was in error.
good to know
america is not the only place that has gone insane.
Eighteen months for an accident? You don’t get eighteen months in Britain for assassinating the Prime Minister.
I disagree. The more countries that are infested with liberal insanity, the harder it is for the for the others to be pulled out of it by saner influences.
The guy should of entered a plea bargain and plead guilty for a lesser offense like bombing an airplane in Lockerbie or something.
Distribution list, I’d bet.
Really! I read many of the comments on this article at the source. Most are appalled at the ruling.
One guy described how someone was beaten up, robbed and had their car stolen. The perps received only a two month sentence.
The leftists are driving all societies back to barbarism.
doesnt intent mean anything?
