Pat Caddell: Mainstream media is threatening our country's future
Fox News ^ | September 29, 2012 | Patrick Caddell

I think we’re at the most dangerous time in our political history in terms of the balance of power in the role that the media plays in whether or not we maintain a free democracy or not. You know, when I first started in politics – and for a long time before that – everyone on both sides, Democrats and Republicans, despised the press commonly, because they were SOBs to everybody. Which is exactly what they should be. They were unrelenting. Whatever the biases were, they were essentially equal-opportunity people.

That changed in 1980.

There are a lot of reasons for it. It changed—an important point in the Dukakis-Bush election, when the press literally was trying to get Dukakis elected by ignoring what was happening in Massachusetts, with a candidate who was running on the platform of “He will do for America what he did for Massachusetts”—while they were on the verge of bankruptcy.

Also the change from evening news emphasis to morning news by the networks is another factor that’s been pointed out to me.

Most recently, what I call the nepotism that exists, where people get jobs—they’re married to people who are in the administration, or in politics, whatever.

But the overwhelming bias has become very real and very dangerous. We have a First Amendment for one reason. We have a First Amendment not because the Founding Fathers liked the press—they hated the press—but they believed, as [Thomas] Jefferson said, that in order to have a free country, in order to be a free people, we needed a free press. That was the job—so there was an implicit bargain in the First Amendment, the press being the only institution, at that time, which was in our process of which there was no checks and balances....

Pat Caddell: Mainstream(sic) media is threatening our country's future

No such thing as a "Mainstream media". The DLEMM- Dominant Liberal Establishment Mass Media - is an enemy of the Republic and wears kneepads for Soetoro.

Can there be any doubt now about the real orientation of the media in this country? Caddell is pointing out that which has been obvious to most of us for many years.

I have Brighthouse cable and they have been blacking out Fox News and right now is a black screen and Chris Wallace is having an interview with Paul Ryan. I was able to use their feature to start over the program and after hitting the select button over and over did I get the program to start. I have called them several times to let them know their bias is obvious and fooling no one. Dish network is looking better each day.

The amazingly twisted thing is that if you talk to many lefties they will tell you that the press is extremely right wing.

The MSM is merely an armored or maybe artillery division in the Army of the real enemy of America.

That enemy is the Democrat party and all who claim to be Democrats. Destruction is their goal and they are achieving it.

To narrow it down to the MSM is to let the real bad people off the hook.

I agree for the most part, but the MSM are the enablers. Without their cover the Democrat party would have to sink or swim on it's own principles, and we know they can't survive by doing that. They can never run on their record and must resort to lies and thug tactics to divide. Without the cover of the MSM they would shrivel and die on the vine.

That doesn’t amaze me at all when I think of all the other idiotic things they say. What I find really amazing is that there are so many who can profess to believe all their crap and yet manage to function and earn a living, a very good living in some cases. It leads me to believe they only pretend to be so stupid because they reap rewards for doing so. Anyone who is really that stupid should be sitting in a corner blowing spit bubbles in a home for the mentally disabled.

Thanks for the Marxist Media ping. They have been this way for a long time, but not as blatant as now.

If a president of either party—I don’t care whether it was Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton or George Bush or Ronald Reagan or George H. W. Bush—had a terrorist incident, and got on an airplane after saying something, and flown off to a fundraiser in Las Vegas, they would have been crucified! It would have been—it should have been the equivalent, for Barack Obama, of George Bush’s “flying over Katrina” moment. But nothing was said at all, and nothing will be said.

Agreed. Pat Caddell is a patriot, and appears to love his country more than his party.

The country cannot last unless the Mainstream Media is defeated.

All I would ask is that Romney run his general election campaign like he ran the primaries. I was not a Romney supporter but his campaign instinctively knew when to go for the jugular to get the other guy’s numbers down. Gingrich can testify to that.

For the record; my candidate was Newt. And no question; Romney had no problem bringing a few knives out. With their own Party; it is an entirely different MO. They are emboldened; and they attack. With the 'real' enemy; the real threat; our Establishment prefers to 'make nice'. (Think as well; this Repub Establishment; shares the same mistaking view of voters, who live more than a hundred miles outside the D.C. Beltway.)

McCain told us - warmly - that America had nothing to fear from an Obama Presidency (as if we were too dumb to understand Obama politics; nor understand Rev. Wright's Marxist Christianity; much less, translate what Obama's 'Change' was about). No; even for these - our - Repubs; 'their' Constituency, needed assurance; because we were seeing only a Black man; different than 'we'.

We were reminded as well and often; as if we needed it; that Obama 'really IS a nice guy'. . .he just does not know what he is doing. (Right. . .) That; from McCain and Romney as well; and the Karl Rove ilk Et Al. (Unable as they were and still are; seemingly unable/unwilling to beat the 'racist card' always in play by the Left.)

What freaking pap to be treated to from our Party; when ideologically; we 'out here'; know that 'our' world view is totally incompatible with an ideology rooted in what is an absolute totalitarian evil.

But yes; the knives out for Newt; just as this Repub establishment manages to put a knife in Mitt's side almost every day. That is an easy call. . .for these Repub hostages to Obama; and the political correctness he demands; and so receives.

Am so hoping, in this debate and from now to Election; that Mitt rises above; sees the traitorous dragon for 'what/who'; and the threat he portends to America - just as we do; and acts accordingly.

All to say; hope that Mitt will not shy from the truth; but rather drop 'truth b*mbs' on Obama's lies - as he utters them throughout debate; and that he does it fearlessly and effortlessly.

But not holding my breath. . .

this gut Patrick must have been born yesterday saying it started in 1980,

He was a principal adviser to Jimmy Carter, and largely responsible for his unlikely victory in the primaries in 1976. He may not want to take the glimmer off of his great life achievement. It was a well-run campaign.

Well I didn’t have a preferred candidate in the primaries- I couldn’t get excited about any of them so for me it’s not really about Mitt as a conservative, a moderate, a lib or any other label.

I think he loves America and at this point in our history that really counts for something. Normally, that would be a given- but not now. I like Ryan a lot and do not think for a minute he would agree to be Romney’s running mate if he thought he was as awful as he’s portrayed.

I fully expect if he’s elected that I’ll be hollering about this or that proposal or idea that he comes up with. I’m comepletely ok with that- hell I spent years hollering at GWB too..but at least we will be rid of the fascist.

Share all your thoughts as well per the 'vote' and Mitt.

All the criticisms of 'this; that or thus' re Mitt; pale, to that of what we could 'forever' face and suffer; with the 'Ascendancy' - literally - of Obama.

It is a now or never vote 'for' America; or against. Nothing more; at this point; and nothing less.

Mr. Caddell is still a Progressive and should not be thought of as having an independent thought process; something’s up and he’s playing the game as outlined by whomever is running the game.

IMHO

They have become Obama cheerleaders and a fully owned subsidiary of the democrat party and proud of it.

The solution?

Because Putin had a problem with the press, and after a couple of his most vocal critics started pushing up daisies, the propagandists trying to undermine his government got the message very quickly and started thinking twice before filing their reports.

Sans that , there are few viable options for dealing with marxist propagandists out to destroy the American way of life.
