Ahead of the first debate, top journalists and commentators agree on one thing: Mitt Romney needs to shake up the race fast with an aggressive, confident performance on Wednesday night.
The reporters and pundits from across the political spectrum with whom POLITICO spoke leading up to the kick-off of the presidential debate season say theyre expecting Romney to come out strong against President Barack Obamas economic policies and his leadership style over the past four years. They say the Republican nominee needs to create a dramatic moment on the national stage but the medias expectation that Romney can pull that off is muted.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.......................
I have no doubt that the media scum will be providing the questions to the jug-eared moron’s camp well before the debate, in order to better ensure his preparation, however, the O-hole is truly an idiot and a compulsive liar. All of the preparation in the world will not improve his chances as I believe he is incapable of composing a single coherent thought. As a result, he will lie, obfuscate, and providing nothing more than incoherent rambling nonsense instead of answering the question posed. The big question is, “will Romney lambast the moron’s bull crap, point out the obvious lies and explain the detrimental effect the tyrant wannabe has had on the country over the last four years?”
We may not get as many “Romney lost’ articles as you think. Those were from the old days of liberal media.
This is a new era of liberal media, we’ll instead get 800 “Politifact” or “Fact checker” articles claiming every point Romney made was somehow factually inaccurate.
This is true. Romney will have to massacre Obama to even get the MSM to acknowledge Romney was at the podium. Obama can spew green vomit, head spin 360, levitate and they will say he has a brilliant grasp of Revelations.
“Absolutely FANTASTIC line that Romney should use in the debates: THERE YOU GO AGAIN.
to those of us on FR that sounds like a good line, but i’m afraid Obama will say “I knew Ronald Reagan and You’re No Ronald Reagan,” And them the media will go wild with adulation for Obama’s comeback, even if what Obama said about knowing Reagan is untrue.
If Romney wants to use that line, he needs to be prepared for an appropriate comeback to Obama’s comeback, particularly if Obama didn’t know Reagan. Maybe, Romney should respond to that by stating: if Ronald Reagan were alive today, he wouldn’t be voting for Barack Obama.
I agree, Romney can’t rely on some old Reagan lines or old debate lines. He needs to create a new one to repeat about 5-6 times during the debate.
A phrase along these lines—— “We’ve given President Obama four years and seen no results. As Clint said, sometimes you need to let someone go”
Or come up with a line that belittles Obama’s line four years ago about Bush driving the car into the ditch. Something like “This President has tried to drive the car out of the ditch for four years. Time to call a tow truck”
Those aren’t great, but his team needs to spend a day or two thinking up a line like that. Something that emphasizes that Obama has been President for four years and we’ve gone nowhere. That to me is the winning line for Romney if he can get it out there.
Previously I could take a little of the bs they wrote, not any longer.
They're in full 'Joseph Goebbels Mode' now.
I should have included some possible rebuttals points for Romney:
When obama starts to repeat the same old dribble he made in 2008 OR 2010, and he will, Romney could use an effective response ie: Mr. President, there is a famous quote by Yogi Berra...Its deju vu all over again, weve all heard your broken promises years ago
OR: Mr President, you have asked the American public to patiently wait for your policies to work, we have waited for four long years, just how long do you expect us to wait...and for what
You don't need a bug in your ear if the sycophant media gives you the questions ahead of time.
I don’t believe he should even attempt to use that line at all. That is, and always will be, Reagan’s line and I think if he used it, it would diminish him by drawing the inevitable contrast to Reagan that is sure to follow. He simply would not measure up.
Romney lost the debate” articles have already been written.
Media doing another Dewey wins act.
Actually, that could happen.....
THAT would be about the LAST thing I would suggest for Romney. All it would accomplish is to make him look like a weak imitation of Reagan and he would be pilloried for it.
Instead he should say:
Day he go again...He be LYIN' on hisseff!
The media’s meme will be that Romney lost the debate if he doesn’t thoroughly mop the floor with Obama.
Not sure if it’s that bad, but I don’t know what Romney can do to “win.” Obama will simply answer softball questions with long winded eloquent falsehoods, while Romney will be too busy trying to answer the loaded questions tossed at him. Regardless of what happens, some snap poll will show Obama the winner by double digits and the media will immediatly start touting the genius of the Obama campaign.
Romney could make Obama uncomfortable by mentioning Univision’s Fast and Furious program. He could ask why it took a FOREIGN station to inform us about the failure of Obama’s gun trafficking. That would slam the “unbiased” news media at the same time.
He could also add that the guns would have been more useful in the hands of the embassy security force in Benghazi.
I don't know about others, but this made me laugh out loud.
